5 minutes from anywhere in Presidio, La Casita sits on 5 acres bound by the City on the North and the defunct railroad tracks on the south. Two other residences on property, this is a very private little estate. A cute little piece of history! There is a lot of hiking in Big Bend State Park accessible off a paved road, FM170. The dirt road travel recommends a high draft vehicle.. altho' I driven to the Ranch Hdqs in a '98 Buick Roadmaster before, just go really slow. According to Mrs Ornelas, this house was built by her husband's, Tom, grandfather, Pedro Baeza, around the 1890's. It features the original roof/ceiling made of cotton wood beams, wood slats and adobe, called "viga and lata" in Spanish. It has been remodeled recently to convey more of a feeling of a hotel room of the 1890's. It sits on a 5 acre wooded estate, full of birds and small animals, has a view of the mountains in Mexico and spectacular sunrises. The guest will be able to come and go as they please, hike the woods or maybe cut trails first, and then hike the woods. It also has it's own washer and dryer and store room with a bike to borrow. I pride myself on knowing a lot of the history of Presidio and the venues and activities in South Presidio County, I am always happy to share my knowledge, tho' one may have to follow me around as I attend to many chores. I am gathering tourist information to leave in the guest quarters. We know everyone in the neighborhood. It sits down along a the strip of small estates know locally as the "ranchitos". There is taxi service to and from Ojinaga. A lender bicycle is included with the casita. After dark, it get's very quiet except for all the animals and birds singing. We have coffee and creamers..but we stopped trying to leave food (it usually just went bad)
