Enjoy this unique property! This home is situated on The Ward Field Runway where sport pilots can taxi their plane right up to the house. During the winter there is an avid angler scene and in the summer enjoy the hot weather by the pool or take a short bike ride down to the river. The neighborhood sits at the base of the Siskiyou wilderness and parallels the Smith River, California's last undammed river. This house is ready for you to retreat, hike, and enjoy the life of historic Gasquet. This home is situated within a short distance to the coast and its beaches, endless wilderness trails, Stout Grove, Giant Redwoods, and many other attractions for Northern California. The neighborhood of Gasquet is perfect for biking or walking as it is mostly flat and the neighbors are some of the nicest. Though the house itself has no river access, there are a few public river spots within the neighborhood and also many more within a short drive. You can expect fun outdoor living as well as a few sport planes here and there as the home is situated on a rural runway, home to locals & the occasional fed ex pilot who needs to stop and take a break. The pool is unheated at this time, with goals of heating by summer 2022. Guests will have access to the house, property and pool. IMPORTANT SAFETY DISCLOSURE: THIS POOL IS NOT FENCED NOR DOES IT HAVE A SAFETY FENCE OR ANY SAFETY MEASURES IN PLACE THAT WOULD PREVENT A SWIMMING RELATED ACCIDENT. IF YOU ARE TRAVELING WITH A NON SWIMMER, CHILD, OR INFANT PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS. Our house has door chimes and we provide alarm bracelets which if used properly will alert with a loud siren, and a safety pool cover, but THERE ARE NO SAFETY MEASURES other than that in place, it is up to the guests to ensure they will not allow their children or non swimmers out of their sight. If you are unwilling to abide by this we WILL NOT RENT TO YOU. Guests will be able to reach us via phone or text. We will have a host locally available. The neighborhood is situated at the base of the Siskiyou Wilderness and has the Smith River running through it. Guests can bike or drive to see where the North Fork and the South Fork of the Smith River converge. Horace Gasquet immigrated to Crescent City, California, in 1855. In 1857, he purchased 320 acres of land at the north and middle forks of the Smith River, and set up the village of Gasquet, with a hotel, bar, store, barn, blacksmith shop, winery, and other small buildings. As you enter the neighborhood you will see the remains of Historic Adam's Station. Lovely Stony Creek trail is situated within the upper area of the neighborhood and showcases local wildflowers and deep swimming holes. You’ll need a car to access most of the swimming spots near South Fork zone or use the bikes or walk to to neighborhood confluence swimming spot. Local grocery shopping is limited to corner market style shops. In the neighborhood there is a wonderful little stop and shop for essentials, liquor, and sometimes there is a farmers market happening out front. Crescent city, Brookings, and Grants Pass have larger stores so we recommend stopping there before getting to the Fly In.
