Explore Savanna and the surrounding areas while enjoying the comforts of this quaint victorian home just 2 blocks from the working waterfront of the Mighty Mississippi. Watch the river barges load at the granary, count the train cars, and enjoy the river from Marquette Park. 1 block from Main St, 5 minutes south of Mississippi Palisades State Park, 5 minutes north of the Great River Trail, the marina and the loading point for CSavanna kayak and tubing adventures. Built in 1898 by the owner of the lumber yard and mill, our Guest House has beautiful wood work, hard wood floors and a lovely spiral stairway. While it boasts of being the first home in Savanna to have indoor pluming, we have recently updated the 3 bathrooms to make them lovelier than ever. Each of the 3 bedrooms creates an inviting retreat after a full day of exploring the local sights and sounds. The green bedroom has a private bath. But watch your step... just outside the bedroom door are steep stairs that lead down to the kitchen. A bit of an historical experience awaits the guest in this lovely room. The other two bedrooms share a large bathroom with double sinks, clawfoot bathtub and a luxurious shower. The third full bathroom is conveniently located downstairs off the kitchen. In 1902 when the first bathrooms came to Savanna, they were placed wherever they could find the space. Enjoy breakfast on the enclosed sun porch or outside on the patio. Plenty of outdoor seating for those days when it is just too beautiful to stay inside. The living room is the perfect place to gather as it has plenty of seating for lively group discussions, intimate heart-to-heart talks or watching the latest movie using your favorite movie subscription. Savanna is a quaint little town who's Main Street is also the main access route to Mississippi Palisades and Poopies, that means that it can get a little congested. The fastest way to town is to simply leave your car here and walk the couple of blocks to the main action. There is free on-street parking along Main Street and the side streets. Most weekends during the summer, Main Street will be lined with an assortment of motorcycles making a stop for a cool drink on a warm day. I will be available through texts and my local co-host Christie will be available to help in an emergency. Savanna is the perfect jumping off point for adventurers of all kinds. Summer: Rock climbing and hiking are just 5 minutes away at Mississippi Palisades park, Kayaking and tubbing on the Mississippi and Maquoketa Rivers, biking and walking on the Great River Trail, bird watching all along the river. Winter: Snow shoe hikes, ice fishing, snowmobiling. Savanna is also an amazing place for those who love to ride motorcycles as it is the home of Poopies, the go-to destination for food, drink, music and an experience you won't soon forget. Motorcycles line Main Street most summer days for the cool drinks and hot live music. For those who want a nice dinner out, my favorite place is Circa 1888, with its gluten free and vegetarian options, there is something for everyone. Summer also means Farmers' Markets, so get here on Thursday and stock the fridge with your favorite fruits and veggies. Not here on a Thursday? Then shop Sullivan's Foods just 7 blocks away. With so much to do in Savanna, you will want to return often. Getting around Savanna very easy, you can walk, bike, or drive. From our Guest House everything in Savanna is no more than 7 blocks away. For the surrounding areas, you will need to drive a car, motorcycle or bicycle.
