Windmill Acres, a rural guest house retreat

Enjoy the privacy and convenience of our comfortable rural guesthouse in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Centrally located in the middle of California's "Gold Country", you can relax in one of the rocking chairs on the front porch, overlooking wide-open fields and sunsets. Inside you'll find comfortable furnishings, a cozy gas fireplace, and a fully-equipped kitchen. Picnic table and outside seating make it easy to enjoy the fruits of your visits to wineries and local foods. Vaulted ceilings and an open floor plan make this small house feel spacious. Many windows let you look out at the deer and turkeys in the fields, and the botanic gardens surrounding the house. We will respect your privacy, we live next door so we can answer your questions and share travel stories, if you want. We are often out working in the yard, and you are welcome to visit or pitch in! Family members have severe allergies, so no animals are allowed. We are in a beautiful rural setting, across the road from the historic Nielsen cattle ranch, but just a short drive from shopping and fine restaurants in Placerville and Plymouth. After a day visiting the many wineries nearby, you can picnic under heritage oaks and watch the hawks wheeling overhead. We are located on scenic California Highway 49, and are an easy drive to wineries in the Fair Play, Apple Hill, Pleasant Valley, and Shenandoah Valley areas. Five minutes from us is the start of the El Dorado Trail, a lovely bike/walking trail that you can walk to Placerville, or ride 12 miles to Camino Heights. Mountain hiking is exceptional in the El Dorado National Forest, or you can hike sections of the Tahoe Rim Trail.
