The Bungalow sits on the shores of the charming Rock River, a few paddles away from the scenic Bark River, and a meandering boat ride to the enormous Lake Koshkonong. Are you ready to feel relaxed…carefree…and rejuvenated? Our neighborhood is very peaceful and quiet. Beautiful waterfront bungalow, with 60' of rock shoreline, is close to the heart of all the activities that Fort Atkinson has to offer…or you can hang out in the Eagle's Nest Lodge/bonus room complete with balcony, to converse with family, or just sit and watch the ripples in the river. Looking for water activities? Have fun exploring the Rock and Bark Rivers using one of our FOUR kayaks, canoe, and two large innertubes. You can go upriver and follow the Bark River through the trees or go downriver and check out what downtown Fort looks like from the water. In the garage are lots of life vests for kids - adults. If you get too hot, go down the ladder on your private pier to cool off on the 60' of shoreline. The bottom can be a little rocky (hence the river name). Dry off with a beach towel from the kitchen closet. The Rock River around our house is a blissful ‘no wake’ area, which makes it perfect for floating, kayaking, canoeing, boating, and fishing. Take your personal boat or a locally rented boat to Lake Koshkonong for swimming, tubing, skiing, or just boating around the expansive 10,464 acres. It is only 7 miles one way to reach Lake Koshkonong by boat, or to get there a lot faster, put your boat in at the public boat launch. Want to go swimming at one of the four local beaches with sand? They are really close by. Our neighborhood is very quiet and peaceful - which is what our neighbors love about living there. We request that our guests respect the neighbors by keeping the noise levels down and of course, only staying on our property. Our neighbors are very friendly. The water levels on the river and lake fluctuate throughout the year, sometimes Mother Nature gives us too little rain and the water is extremely low and other times she give us too much and the shorelines flood - never know...that's living on the water! Plenty of fishing opportunities where you can catch several varieties of fish, clean at our fish station, cook on the patio grill, and eat while sitting around the fire pit. Oh yeah, and Rock River Bait Box is just downtown. Some of the fish in the Rock River are walleye, catfish, panfish, and northern pike. Looking for land activities? There are a plethora of activities that will keep you energized! Hike or bike the 1-mile Bark River Nature Trail which is just a street away from the Bungalow. We even have eight bikes that you can use. The Glacial River Bike Trail will take you through a tree lined paved path, and if you stay on it long enough...a vintage, red-covered bridge. Choose hiking on the Indian Mounds Trail where you can experience the 1,500-year-old effigy mounds. Make reservations at the Fireside Theater to eat a delicious meal, enjoy a musical, and shop in their unique boutiques. Bring your golf clubs and your ‘A’ game for Koshkonong Mounds Country Club. The Rock River Park features an Aquatic Center, tennis courts, basketball court, archery range, and an obstacle course. Close by stands a replica of the “Old Fort.” Check out the antique stores in downtown Fort Atkinson, only 1 mile away. Learn about history at the Blackhawk Museum and our dairy state at the Hoard Historical Museum. Visit Kim Grunow’s Rock River Canoe Co. to see the cedar strip canoes. Trek through the 514 acres of Dorothy Carnes County Park for fun hiking, picnicking, and bird watching. Enjoy the Farmer’s Market where you can purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, honey, fine jewelry, free kid’s activities, and listen to acclaimed musicians - all on Saturdays from 8:00-12:00, in Fort Atkinson. You can even choose to jump out of a plane! During the winter, there are local snowmobile trails. There is plenty of room on our gravel area for your winter toys or summer toys! Looking for stay-at-the-bungalow activities? Sit on the sun porch with a cup of steaming hot coffee or tea and curl up with a book. On a rainy day, venture into the garage game room and play ping-pong, foosball, old school electronic game, dartboard, board games, card games, and puzzles. Hang out in the bonus room above the garage, EVERYONE'S favorite place, the “Eagle’s Nest Lodge,” where you can congregate around the bar, engage in conversation, play cards, watch TV, or go out on the balcony for the breezes, sights, and sounds of the Rock River as you search for eagles. Play outdoor games such as corn hole, fish off the pier or shoreline, sit around the fire pit making s’mores, and sipping your favorite beverage while watching the stars as they emerge from our breathtaking Wisconsin night sky. Looking for a spectacular bungalow? If you are looking for a home that has character, charm, and is clean...then the Rock-n-Kosh Bungalow is your get away place! The story that has been handed down through the generations is about a local man, Gust Hebbe, who in the early 1900’s owned land and an ice business alongside the Rock River. Gust sent away to Sears Roebuck catalog for a house kit and plans. He then built 3 identical bungalows on the Rock River in 1935, one for each of his sons – our home belonged to the oldest son, Alfred. The kit houses were built in America between 1908 and 1940. They included pre-cut materials and were typically built by relatives and friends, in a fashion similar to the traditional barn raising of farming families. Our Bungalow is distinct in the graceful way the main roof curves down over the large, enclosed front porch. It has 2,369 sq ft, 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and sleeps 10 people - all in very comfortable beds. Meals can be prepared in the fully equipped kitchen and there is enough seating for everyone! Want to know the weather or listen to music? Just ask Alexa on the Echo Show 8. Is your phone dead? Put it in the charging station in the kitchen. Want to watch TV? You can stream using your own provider on all 3 Smart TVs. There are three entrances into the Bungalow from the outside: front, side, and back - all three entrances have stairs. The spacious and creatively decorated bedrooms honor famous native Wisconsinites. All of the beds have plush mattresses, quality linens, and an abundance of cushy pillows which will provide you with a great night's sleep after spending the day exploring and playing. Red room 1 queen Lorine Niedecker, poet Green room 1 queen Les Paul, inventor & musician Gray room 1 queen Georgia O’Keefe, painter Blue room 2 queens Frank Lloyd Wright, architect (closet: race car toddler bed and pack-n-play) The living spaces have visual commemorations which honor Fort Atkinson individuals who were important to the community or lived in the Bungalow. The two leather couches have power recliners at each end for a total of four areas to kick back and take a nap! The kitchen has six stools, three are in front of the countertop and the other three face the river. Living room Gust Hebbe, ice business Kitchen John and Mary Grogan, attorney Dining room William Hoard, politician, magazine owner & governor One of the favorite places is the sunporch with wrap-around windows, which is air conditioned and heated to keep you comfortable. Our Bungalow is one of the most special places to our family and we are happy to share it with you. The neighborhood is well established, family-oriented, safe, and laid back. The perfect place to relax with family and friends while you make lifetime memories.
