At this quintessential Vermont retreat, you can watch passing wildlife and listen to the soothing sounds of the brook across the way, enjoy the wonderful mountain and woodland views from the expansive deck and covered front porch, and go swimming in the pond on warm summer days. You'll also have a stunning setting for winter sledding and snowmobiling, a cozy wood stove, and a billiard room with a wet bar for your at-home entertainment. What's nearby: During the spring and summer months, mountain bikers from around the world come to test their mettle on the extensive trail system in Mad River Valley, which also includes over 40 miles of single-track on Sugarbush Mountain. Fall is a time for vibrant colors and postcard-perfect hikes in Camels Hump State Forest, named for its camel-shaped peaks. The area's other seasonal outdoor activities include canoeing and kayaking the Mad River, rock climbing at Appalachian Gap, and zooming down the challenging ski slopes of Sugarbush Resort (six miles north) and Mad River Glen (15 miles north).
