Sky Acres Mountain Retreat
DUE TO COVID WE REQIRE 3 DAYS BETWEEN RESERVATIONS Artist owned, Sky Acres is a passive solar mountaintop home on twenty beautiful wooded acres. Rolling mountains and colorful sunsets fill the view from the west and the night sky becomes a planetarium. On quiet mornings wake to singing birds. We are located on a quiet mountain with unlimited hiking but just minutes from the quaint town of Bakersville where you can find a grocery store, pharmacy as well as art galleries and banks. Our home is just minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, Penland School of Crafts and just 45 minutes from the fun town of Asheville. The road, (driveway) up to the house is a gravel semi steep mountain road. While it is generally a pretty easy drive, on occasion the weather causes some bumps and ruts most often in the spring. The snowfall in winter can be heavy on the mountain and has sometimes has made the drive impassable unless you have a four wheel drive. The house is located in the mountains in Mitchel County where cell service and WiFi are available but weak. Our house is on a mountain and our WiFi is provided by a hotspot on the kitchen counter. **Recently Verizon has reduced the signal from the only two towers in the area, consequently the weak signal makes WiFi very poor and due to the mountain it is often affected by the weather. Cell service works best in the front of the house.
