It's the only vacation rental on our side of the island that is surrounded by a surfboard fence! You will also enjoy fence murals and homemade decor and furniture made by Amy (owner) throughout our home and property. Walk out the back gate to the coffee cafe or small organic grocery store. Enjoy the outdoor shower, your own fenced yard and outdoor seating for relaxing. Private and quiet house in a perfect location for exploring the island! (We are no more than 2.5 hours from anywhere on the whole island!) Perfect for those wanting to drive the road to Hana or visit Haleakala. Enjoy our island like a local on our non-touristy north shore of Maui. IDEAL GUESTS: Our ideal guests are returning Maui visitors that want to experience something different than the resorts. Or first time guests that are looking to split their stay between the tourist areas of the south and west shores and the tropical quiet areas of north and east shores. Many guests stay with us to explore the North shore, Hana and Haleakala as we are in the ideal location to these beautiful wonders of maui. PROPERTY: Enter our family-friendly neighborhood, where we are located at the end of a private street. The house is situated at the back of the property next to open land on 2 sides. It shares the property with our Cottage at the front of the property. Both have their own guest parking, private yards and are private and separate from one another. ACCOMMODATIONS: The house accommodates up to 6 people and is well appointed with everything you need to make your stay as comfortable as possible. It is perfect for two couples (4 adults) or a family (4 adults/2 children). OUR HOME: Our newly remodeled home has everything a family would need for their stay- just bring your clothes and aloha spirit. Throughout the home you will see homemade decor and furniture made by Amy to create a unique, creative environment for your stay. The space is warm and inviting with hardwood floors in the main living areas and carpet in the bedrooms. KITCHEN: The kitchen comes fully equipped for cooking and includes an electric stove & microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator. BEDROOMS: Each bedroom features a different homemade headboard, pillows, the same soft tropical linens and a ceiling fan. House sleeps 6 guests in beds (2 queens and 2 twin beds) . If you need space for a portable crib, (not provided) it will fit in the master bedroom. Extra blankets and an extra fan are located in the closets for those colder or warmer nights. No other sleeping accommodations available, all guests must sleep in beds provided. BATHROOM: The bathroom is equipped with toilet paper, hand soap & bathroom towels for use during your stay. Don't forget to enjoy a shower in the outside shower at the end of the covered sitting area with hot and cold water! DINING/ LIVING ROOM: A large handmade dining room table, comfortably sits 6 people with chairs and handcrafted bench and shares the open living space with a couch and TV armoire filled with family board games. EXTRAS: The entire home has its own wireless internet access. The home comes with beach towels, beach chairs, a beach umbrella, cooler, guidebooks, and plenty of aloha. You are welcome to roam the property and help your self to fresh fruit when in season. Certain times of year it seems like delicious avocados are falling from the sky daily! FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN: If your reservation includes children, we ask that you respect our home and space and cleanliness of the home during your stay. Please have children eat and drink in the dining area to avoid sticking fingers and spills throughout the home. At check-out, we ask all our guests to leave the house in the manner in which they received it. May Not be suitable for infants or toddlers as the home is not baby proofed and does not come equipped with infant sleeping or eating accommodations other than what is noted in our listing. If you're bringing a portable crib, (not provided) there is space in the master bedroom for one to be set up. ANIMAL FREE HOME & PROPERTY: No animals allowed at anytime in or around our home or on our property. Also please do not feed/give water or let any wild animals (cats, chickens, etc.) in our houses that may pass thru the property during your stay. This is a shared home and property with our family. Our son has severe allergies to all animal dander. He has been hospitalized due to asthma and his severe animal dander allergies. We have never had any animals in our homes and cannot due to the health and safety of our son. We must keep our homes as an animal free environment, no exceptions. As much as we love animals, we cannot compromise his health. This is strictly enforced. SMOKE FREE HOME & PROPERTY: This is a smoke-free home and property. Please do not smoke in our home, outside our homes or anywhere on our property. Our family has allergies to smoke and we also have other guests on the property that may have allergies to smoke as well, which is why they chose to stay at our property. No Exceptions. GUEST ACCESS: Guests are renting the entire Haiku Surf House for their stay. And have use of 2 private house parking spots and a private yard. Laundry on-site is accessed & used by Cleaners Only. No Laundry available on-site for guests. OTHER THINGS TO NOTE: OUR NEIGHBORHOOD: Our home is conveniently located in a quiet family neighborhood within 2-minute walk to the best local coffee cafe in Haiku town, Baked on Maui in the Pauwela Cannery. There is also a small health food store, Pauwela Store with a variety of grocery amenities, hardware store, windsurf and surf shops etc... You are welcome to walk out the back gate of the property for a quick shortcut to the cannery. NORTH SHORE OF HAIKU: Haiku is located on the north side of Maui with perfect island weather of about 80 degrees year-round. We get cooler nights, often with rain which keeps our surroundings green and lush and days kissed by the sun and trade winds. The airport is only 20 minutes away, but you will feel like you are miles from the hustle and bustle of it all. AROUND HAIKU: Around Haiku are countless activities and natural resources to explore, such as shopping, hiking, surfing, waterfalls, beaches, zip-lining, and horseback riding. We have partnered with a local tour company so our guests can reserve activities before and during their stay. Go to this link to reserve all your Hawaii activities: www.tombarefoot.com/haikusurfcottage HAIKU is a great base from which to explore the island: * We are only a 25-minute drive from the airport. * Hookipa Beach is 8-minute drive from the house. * Paia, named the “Happiest Seaside Town” by Coastal Living magazine, is a 10-minute drive offering with great shopping, good food, yoga and beautiful beaches. * The historic town of Makawao is a 10-minute drive away where you will find art galleries, clothing boutiques, great restaurants, cafes, yoga, and a multitude of healing arts. * Drive through Upcountry Maui, to the top of the Haleakala Crater in just 90 minutes for beautiful sunrise or sunset views. * The south side beaches of Makena, Wailea, and Kihei are a little over half an hour away. * The drive to Lahaina or further up the coast on the west side, takes 45-minutes to an hour, depending on road conditions. * Driving the Road to Hana is one of our favorite adventures and reaching the town of Hana itself will take about 2 hours depending on how many stops you make along the way. GETTING AROUND: We recommend renting a car during your stay, The nearest bus stop is 1.8 miles down the road at the Haiku Cannery. Since we are not in a tourist area, Taxi's, Uber or Lyft do not frequent our area regularly, therefore we do not recommend this for your main transportation. OWNER INTERACTION WITH GUESTS: We are available to answer questions and help make your stay enjoyable anytime thru reservation portal or by cell/text and attend to your needs as they come up. If we are off island during your stay, we have a property manager that is always available if onsite needs arise. Otherwise, your privacy will be respected so you can enjoy our home like it is your own. CANCELLATION POLICY: Travel is a choice. While our cancellation policy remains valid and moderate, we are offering full refunds for any booking affected if Hawaii stops the pre-testing program and reinstates the 14-day quarantine proclamation for your reservation dates. All other cancellations, we recommend you see if the VRBO extenuating circumstance applies for your cancelation. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND ALL GUESTS PURCHASE A THIRD-PARTY TRAVEL INSURANCE, one that lets you cancel for any reason for your vacation! It will cover your vacation for all other reasons not listed above that may cause you to cancel your stay. OUR HIGH STANDARD CLEANING PROTOCOL: We use the highest cleaning standards and also follow an enhanced 5 step cleaning protocol as recommended by the CDC to clean our homes before and after guest stays. We offer self-check-in for a contact-less check-in. You will find sanitized storage bags so you know the item was cleaned, sanitized and stored until ready to use during your stay. We also have extra cleaning products available for your use in our home, so you don't have to worry on your vacation about household cleaning essentials. The health and safety of our guests is our number one priority during your stay.
