The Hallowell Historic Rooming House is just two blocks from downtown Hallowell, which is nicknamed the "New Orleans on the Kennebec." The city is a regional center for the arts in central Maine, with renowned art galleries, performing arts theaters, studios, festivals and local artists. Hallowell is also home to renowned bars, taverns and restaurants, with the downtown area having a high concentration of eating and drinking establishments. The rooming house is self checkin. See instructions Room C is a sunny room on the second floor with ensuite half bath and private shower in the gym. it has a full size bed, full size fridge and view of the Old South Church. There is also a coffee maker and electric hot water kettle. All of the common doors have digital locks for 24-hour access. The bedroom door also has a digital lock with a chain lock on the inside. Guests will have access to a fully stocked kitchen with numerous small appliances and a seasonal outside kitchen with hot tub. The cook stove is natural gas. There is also a media room with a huge screen TV and four power recliners. Off the media room there is a balcony with a spectacular view of the Kennebec River and park. In the daylight basement, there is a gym with two ellipticals, one tread mill, one bicycle and free weights. Each piece of equipment has its own personal TV. Laundry is complimentary for guests staying five nights or longer; there is a dryer and washing machine with steam cleaning. Laundry soap is provided. TVs are loaded with amazon prime and Spectrum cable. An Orbi mesh system provides super speed internet on all floors. We do not live at the rooming house, but we are located just around the corner. Hallowell is a small coastal community on a tidal river and estuary. The house is within two blocks of downtown in a quiet residential neighborhood, No steep hills to climb. Many walking and bicycle trails nearby. Vaughn Brook and trails is a short walk up Second Street. The carriage trails are known as "hobbitland," characterized by granite bridges and gurgling waterfalls. There are also trails around Jamie Pond and the Hallowell Recreation Area where the town beach is located off Town Farm Road. if staying two nights or longer, complimentary L.L. Bean bicycles of all sizes are available for getting around. Complimentary L.L. Bean kayaks and paddleboards are available for use on the river that stretches from Waterville to the coast. It is an easy trip down or up the river to explore the historic downtowns of Augusta and Gardiner. Kennebec Explorer provides bus service and has a stop in Hallowell. During the season for guests who stay two nights or longer, we have complimentary L.L. Bean bicycles, paddleboards and kayaks to use on the Kennebec River Rail Trail and Kennebec River. A liability release form must be signed prior to use. The rail trail stretches along the river through Hallowell for about ten miles from Augusta to Gardiner. The boat landing is just one block away and we have a kayak cart for getting the kayaks and paddleboards down to the water. The Kennebec River is a wonderful place to kayak or paddle board and an easy excursion to Gardiner or Augusta to explore their historic downtowns. There are eagles and ospreys soaring and sturgeons jumping. There is also a swimming area at the Hallowell town beach about three miles inland.
