A charming cottage, originally a carriage house with over 100 years of family history. The house is nestled in a wooded parcel of property at the entrance of Jackson Creek, where the Rappahannock River meets the Chesapeake Bay. The property connected to the cottage is affectionately known as "Waveland." This property, which also includes a larger farmhouse and garden has been in our family for 108 years. It rests on a private point of land which looks out to the Chesapeake Bay (in front) and on Jackson Creek (to the side). The cottage has 3 bedrooms, 1 full bath, 1 half bath, a dining room a spacious living room, and a screened porch. Although there is a creek view from the house, the cottage is not riverfront, but just a short walk down the driveway there is a private dock and access to the water in the dock area. The property is semi private, backing up to a small marina neighborhood. Because this is a very old home, there are several quirks. We consider these things to add to the house's charm, but things you, as a guest, should know none the less. Things to note: -The house's water supply is drawn from a well on the property. The water is fine for showering but has a strong iron content and slight sulfur smell, making it (safe, but) unsuitable for drinking. The water also leaves iron marks on the tub, toilets, and sinks as well as tarnishing the metal fixtures. The house is fully cleaned before all guests arrive, but although they are clean, these fixtures may look stained. -There is no Wi-Fi or cable TV for the house. There is a coffee shop 1/2 mile away with Wi-Fi as well as the Middlesex County Library. -There is no washing machine, dryer, or dishwasher. There is a TV with DVD player, a corn hole set, lots of games, and a hammock for lounging in the yard. There is a charcoal grill. We provide fresh linens for each bedroom, and towels for the bathrooms, but we ask that you bring your own towels for swimming and sunbathing. After your stay please strip the beds you have used and leave the linens on top to be laundered. Guests will have access to the house and the grounds surrounding. There is a private dock with deep water and a small beach area that is the best spot on the property to swim. There are oysters and other potentially sharp objects in the water, so footwear is strongly encouraged for safety. There is a shower located on the side of the house for rinsing off from the river or for the convenience of bathing pets. Because this property is a family shared home it is not owner-occupied. Checkin and checkout can be arranged through the Airbnb site, and any direct interaction with guests will be at the guest's request. Our house is located within a semi-private community. We have a great relationship with our neighbors and there is a mutual respect between our guests and the residents of the neighborhood. Please be mindful of their property when entering and leaving our driveway. The Little house is pet friendly. There are neighborhood pets who are well behaved but may come to visit. Deltaville is a small town and has no public transportation. There are several walkable places to visit and things to do but a car is a must for traveling to and from the house. Nearby points of interest: The Deltaville Maritime Museum and nature trail Deltaville Marina Fishing Bay Yacht Club Norview Marina Public boat ramp ($10 fee) If you have any problems at all (or just feel like exploring) our family is usually staying in the other house on the property. Please do not hesitate to introduce yourself and we are happy to answer any questions or assist you however we can. There is a map in the welcome book showing the other areas on the property and the location of the "big house". Please use the Airbnb message system if you need to reach us. You can also send a text for a quick reply.
