The Loft at the Blue Barn is located in the historic Highlands Neighbourhood. A former art studio, this above garage loft now acts as a well-appointed bachelor suite. The suite is located close to bus stops and there are several small businesses in the area that you can access by foot. You can also reach the river valley trails by foot to take in a bit of nature in the city. Access to downtown is a 7 to 15-minute drive, depending on what area of the core you are heading to. The loft is a bachelor suite so there isn't a lot of space to host more than 2 people. We can provide a playpen for children under 2 but because of limited space and an open stairway, the space isn't suited for children that are moving around too much on their own. There is a desk/table available for those who need it. The table at the foot of the bed poops up to desk hight and the chairs next to the fireplace can be moved up to the desk to accommodate work or eating. The lofted ceilings in the suite make it feel roomy and the retro electric acron fireplace is perfect to take the edge off a cold Edmonton winter. The bathroom is well appointed with a shower, soaker tub, and double vanity. The toilet is probably not a type you've used before - it's a macerating toilet to accommodate drainage line size restrictions. It works similar to a regular toilet but has an electric motor so when you press the flush button it takes about 30 seconds for the motor to engage. Don't fear! It is not complicated to operate and you can treat it like a normal toilet. No metal bits should go down the drain though or it could damage the motor. Access is around the back of the house, through the human door next to the garage door. The door code will be sent to you 24 hours before you arrive. Please message the hosts for the code when you are ready for it, within that 24 hour period before arrival. Your hosts will be reachable by phone, text, and email. The suite is self check-in and check-out. If we are away from the city we will have a friend acting as a backup so if you have any issues don't hesitate to reach out and we'll make sure the issue is solved. Annexed by Edmonton in 1912, the Highlands is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the city. Driving downtown takes between 7 and 15 minutes where you can take some of the sights and great restaurants. If you want to do some activities on foot you can walk to Julie's Day Spa, Highlands Wellness for a facial or massage, take in some Tapas at the Bodega, get some coffee at the Mandolin Books & Coffee Company, or check out some of the other shops along the strip. You can also take in some nature by walking to the river valley trails or check out some the architecture on Ada Blouvard and other historic streets in the area. You can drive, walk, bus, bike, or catch the train. Parking is available on the street. Please follow the rules posted by the city. There are several bus stops in the area - the best resource for bus information is the City of Edmonton's website. Similarly, there is a train station that is about a 15-minute walk from the suite. Information on train schedules is also available online through the City of Edmonton. If you are bringing bikes you'll need to keep them outside. We recommend keeping them locked on your vehicle's bike rack until you need them. Bikes are not allowed in the suite.
