Great for swimming, easy access to the surrounding villages by public boat which stops at the private pier every 20 minutes, perfect way to explore. Catch the boat at our private dock: (5Q) Left towards Panajachel (Website hidden by Airbnb) Jaibalito Small local village, traditional Things to do: :Hiking - great hike to Jaibalito - walk into Tzununa, take 1st right after football field, follow road, it turns into dirt path, only forks once - keep left up the hill. 1 to 1½ hours. Hike back, or take the boat for 10Q. Or continue to Santa Cruz (45 minutes). Club Ven Aca - jacuzzi, pool, bar & restaurant . Good hang out day on the Lake. Turn right on Calle Principal towards the bridge. Beautiful hand crafted, painted ceramics & weaving. Getting to San Antonio: Carry on past Santa Catarina in camion, costs another 3-5Q. There are no public boats -if you want to take a boat, you will have to hire private boat from the Santiago or Panajachel dock . Chichicastenango Huge Local market on Thursday & Sunday, selling traditional products. Getting to Chichicastenango: We can book a shuttle service which leaves Pana at 8 am and then leaves Chichi at 2pm - round trip costs $12. (Take a 7am or 7.20am boat) You can also take chicken buses - you’ll need to go to Solola and change there for Chichi, takes 1½ -2 hours. Coffee tours : Contact Tim Reher owner of Shangri-la Atitlan We use his Fair trade coffee at the lodge. Tim helps coffee farmers roast their coffee. Boat: Public boats stop every 20 minutes from our private dock, the boat comes from Panajachel from the left side of the lake, you will see the boat coming from around the peninsula, then you have 6 minutes to get on the dock and flag the boat down, costs 5q and takes 5 minutes to get to San Marcos. Last boat back to Maya Moon Lodge from San Marcos at 5:40 pm. Tuk tuk to or from San Marcos: In the day time it is easy to stop a tuk tuk going into San Marcos. 10Q a person. Just walk to the top of the lodge to road, the road to the right goes to Tzununa, to the left San Marcos. Just ask a tuk tuk to take you to house, every year Maximon is moved to a secret location. Not to be missed. Cerro de Oro - easy day hike. Arrange private boat. Posada de Santiago - Hotel with swimming pool and lunch - walk in. Getting to Santiago Take boat to San Pedro, then walk 20 minutes or take tuk tuk to the Santiago dock. Boats leave from there every hour, usually 15 past the hour, costs 30Q. *NB keep in mind the last boat leaves San Pedro at 5.30 pm, so you need to leave enough time to get to that dock. Or you can take a direct boat to Panajachel (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) q) and boats from Panajachel to Maya Moon leave later - 6 and 7:30pm. We can arrange a private boat to Santiago (Website hidden by Airbnb) Panajachel Central tourist hub, great shopping, lots of restaurants, banks, moneygram, western union, ATM, place to catch shuttles and chicken buses. Ask at reception to book shuttles to most places in Guatemala. Things to do Panajachel high street - a very good alternative if you’ve no time to go to Chichicastenango market. Panajachel high street offers the best value of local artasania goods, much cheaper than Antigua. Market : Take a tuk tuk 5q each to the colourful local market. Abracadabra - Unique gift shop. On the high street towards the lake on the left hand side. Butterfly Nature Reserve - 40Q entrance fee, monkeys and butterflies. Nature Reserve : Two different ziplining options for additional fees. Take a tuk tuk from Panajachel to get there. 10q per person. Hotel Atitlan - Go for lunch has beautiful gardens, parrots and peacocks. 40Q to get in but taken from lunch bill, take a tuk tuk from Panajachel.(10q per person.)The hotel is near the Nature Reserve, good day out. Great views. Restaurants and cafes Cafe Loco - great coffee. On Calle Santander. Jasmin - delicious food (including vegetarian selection) in beautiful setting. On Calle Santander. From Panajachel catch a public boat going to San Marcos, Maya Moon Lodge is just after Tzununa. Tell the boat driver Maya Moon he will drop you at our private pier.We can also call private boat or car taxis. We offer breakfast, lunch and dinner in our lakeside restaurant and bar.
