Beautiful Mountain View Cabin

Surrounded by 1000's of acres of forest & privately set on 12 acres, the cabin offers beautiful views and sunsets. Bike or stroll 8 miles of private gravel roads, sit by the fire pit, snooze in the hammock, or take in the views from the deck. Lots of hiking, swimming and kayaking a short drive away. Privately set on a wooded hillside, lower on the property, away from the cabin used by the owners who may or may not be present. Solar powered, the cabin has LED lighting, and charging stations for laptops and cell phones ONLY (NO BLOW DRYERS or other appliances in the outlets!!). Cell coverage is good depending on your carrier. There is potable water from a drilled well and cold running water in the cabin sink. We recommend using the Brita H2o filter (drink at your own discretion. We have done so without issues). The cabin has an attached bathhouse with toilet and on-demand heated shower accessed from the deck. There is no laundry on site: YOU MUST BRING YOUR own towels and bedding and you must cover the mattress. We will provide sheets and towels on request for a 10$ fee. BBG grill, 2 burner gas stove, camp coffee percolator, plates, cups, pots/pans, bowls, and utensils provided. NO FRIDGE: we do provide a large cooler but BYO ice. A bundle of firewood is provided to start your visit; pick up some additional wood on the way if you want nightly fires. You must read "Other things to note" section for IMPORTANT INFO on staying at our cabin and confirm you have done so when requesting to book:-) Guests have access to all parts of the property. A code to enter the gate and the cabin will be provided 48 hours before check in. We spend a lot of time at our mountain property and will often be available to assist if you need anything. However there will be times when we will not be present. When there, we enjoy chatting with guest if they wish, but never intrude on their privacy. You should CALL- not text, if you experience any difficulties. By and large solitude is what you have when you stay at the cabin. The road is accessible only by landowners and their guests. Occasionally another car or ATVs pass the property, and the sound of passing logging trucks far below on Rt 2 may drift up occasionally or you may hear the occasional sound of a chainsaw or generator in the distance as people go about life in western Maine. Approx. 12-15 mins from gate to cabin. Shopping is available in the nearby town of Rumford- 13 mins by car from the gate. The town of Bethel, The Appalachian Trail, Step Falls, and Grafton Notch State park are all 45 mins by car from the cabin. There is Kayak portage on the River 3 mins from the gate, and a spectacular hike up Whitecap Mountain in the town of Andover, 10 mins by car from the gate to trailhead. Also in Andover: ICE CREAM! Also groceries and liquor/beer/wine. Don't drive by Andover's covered Bridge! While 99% of people love their experience, this rental may not be for everyone- consider the following carefully: The property is located off the electric grid, considered remote, on a gated association road, but still only 20 mins from grocery stores and restaurants. The road is course gravel/sand and a bit rough in some spots, and has a few hilly sections which a confident driver will be able to navigate. A Jeep, truck or 4 wheel drive is not necessary to make it to the cabin, but YOU DO NEED a car with GOOD CLEARANCE AND TIRES, and some "driving-savvy." All-wheel drive is best but others have made it! Use your discretion. You should arrive before dark in order to find the cabin more easily. HAVE A HARD COPY OF DIRECTIONS/CODES FOR THE GATE AND CABIN IN HAND when you arrive at the gate to the road. DO NOT rely on your cell phone reception to reference these docs when you arrive at the gate! REMEMBER: Unless you arranged with owners, you must bring your own bedding and towels- They are not provided. YOU MUST cover the mattress with a sheet. CARRY OUT all trash- thank you! This is the Maine Woods! Bring Bugspray:-) DO NOT bug spray on inside the cabin- it dissolves varnish on the wood surfaces (a not-so-clever guests sprayed the legs of the bed- maybe they saw a spider, and damaged our newly refinished floors!) BTW, we spray for pests but this is a cabin in the woods! We DO provide TP/PT/body soap/Shampoo/dish soap! Driveway entrance onto property is shared: follow it down to the lower cabin Park at your cabin door or in the roadside parking space below the final steepest hill at the 3 mile mark, and walk a short path to the cabin!
