Wentworth Waterfront Chalet
Now taking Ski season bookings!! We stock eggs, bacon, bread, cereal, coffee, tea, orange juice and milk so you can start your holiday stress free. Our waterfront chalet nature retreat is nestled in the trees on 8 acres at Angevine Lake and is handy to Ski Wentworth, North Shore beaches, trails, Golf Courses and central to Tatamagouche, Wallace & Pugwash. Snowshoes and Toboggans on site. Very important - this is not a luxury resort. We are sharing our little piece of heaven with you and whether you and your group can appreciate it is all about your expectations. You will get nature, privacy, recharge and adventure. You will not get room service nor pampering. If that's what you're looking for please don't book in!! This lovely well equipped chalet is a true nature retreat. Open concept, brightly wood panelled, the experience is a treat for the senses. Upper loft has its own sink & toilet. Downstairs is an additional toilet, shower & laundry facilities. Delightful large screened in porch extends living space well into shoulder seasons. Note we have just installed a new green metal roof in spring of 2020. Much of Angevine Lake & environs is protected as a nature reserve. Mary, your host, did the biological surveys that resulted in this protection. This chalet is nestled into one of the loveliest spots on the lake and your visit enables us to protect it as the ONLY dedicated dragonfly and damselfly (Odonata) nature preserve in the Americas! So thank you very much!! There are over 40 Odonata species that you can observe here according to season. Flight times extend from early June to late fall according to species. We leave a wonderful range of nature guides at the chalet for you to use during your safari at our Lake :) Birders will also delight in the intimate activity of birds & dawn and dusk chorus. Love the music of frogs, and crickets? The grounds here will truly amaze and enchant you. You will experience deer wandering just outside your screened in porch & rare dragonflies fluttering around you on the boardwalk in the fen. Four seasons of nature therapy to recharge and delight you. Snowshoeing and nearby downhill skiing spectacular! Please only 6 guests max plus one infant under 2 in this small chalet. More will strain our water and septic. Sorry, absolutely no pets, no exceptions. I do all setup and cleaning and have autoimmune issues. Note 1: the person who ploughs our road and drive also makes sure to plough the drive after storms :) Note 2: Yes the cottage is fully winterized and heated comfortably with electricity. We even provide you with a bundle of wood for your first evening but expect you to pick up any more wood you want at the local store ($7.99 a bundle). Sorry but we can't keep up with those who love a fire and use up huge amounts of our wood in the firepit and woodstove! Note 3: This is not a suitable venue for anyone not prepared to enjoy and wonder at wildlife of all shapes and sizes potentially encroaching on your personal space. We do deal with creatures that become pests but for obvious reasons ban doing this via use of chemicals :) From the chalet venture to the lake following our board walk to the shore and our little island. At the tip of the boardwalk is the firepit. Veer left and follow the path to our little beach and boat launch area. Canoe & rowboat for your use here in season. Please do not cut away anything alive in the water. Rare plants abound! Swimming is warm, clear and delightful. Sandy and long shallow entry to lake. Fall colours spectacular! Wonderful skating in winter once lake and pond are safely frozen. Snowshoeing & crosscountry skiing also amazing. Downhill skiing at Wentworth ski hill 15 minutes drive away - and yes they have lots of snowmaking equipment so the slopes are more dependable than anywhere else in the region. In summer head in the other direction to a plethora of amazing north shore salt water beaches. In winter head to nearby Sugar Moon farm for maple syrup treats and hiking the Rogart Mountain Trail. Mary is within easy driving distance and always contactable via cell phone. You are private at the chalet unless you need asssistance. This waterfront nature retreat is a year-round delight. Summer cottagers paradise, but also winter skiing, skating & snowshoeing, spring excursions to nearby rare wild flower sites & birding from the doorstep, summer swimming, hiking & boating, fall colours, screened porch all seasons. Lake on the doorstep, north shore beaches, golf courses and ski hill hop skip and a jump away. Central to Wentworth, Pugwash, Tatamagouche, Oxford & Wallace. This chalet is accessible by car, atv, snowmobile, or bicycle (on the blue route). We manage the grounds as a nature preserve & retreat. There is standing deadfall, forest, fen and native species only on the grounds. Please do not “clean up” nor bring bird seed. Enjoy the serendipity of wildlife sightings and choruses right from the screened porch.
