The Studio is located at the rear of the first floor of a two story building about 200 feet from the main house situated on 5 acres in southern Fairfax County. The remainder of the outbuilding houses a workshop, which you walk through to reach the studio, and what used to be a kids play room upstairs. No one else would occupy the building during your stay. The Studio is very private and quite. If you are looking for something a bit rustic but well appointed then this is it. On the other hand if the outdoors, the slight scent of wood smoke, a bit of dust or the sound of wildlife bothers you then this probably is not for you. If you are allergic to dust mites or are extreamly sensitve to anything that you may encounter I do not reccommend staying here. I have never had a complaint in my many years hosting, however my current guest is extreamly allergic to dust mites (which can be found everywhere) and seems extreamly sensitive to smells. There is nothing dangerous or smelly stored in the workshop so for anyone else this has never been an issue. I have a calico cat named Annabel Lee. She is friendly. There are plenty of woods as well as open space which you are free to explore. There is no thru traffic and we are about a mile from the main highway. We are not walking distance to any transportation. The guest is in their own building with locking doors. The Studio is approximately 400 sq. ft. and includes dedicated wireless wifi, a full size bed, A/C, heat, DVD player, refrigerator, microwave, a large countertop oven, electric griddle, electric skillet, electric kettle, rice maker, crock pot, toaster, coffee maker, sheets, towels, utensils, desk, sofa, coffee table, sitting area with chairs and a table, an armoire, four chests of drawers, a bathroom with shower and windows on three sides of the main room with beautiful views. I am happy to offer suggestions on getting around, areas of interest, restaurants and bars. As you are in a separate building we may not see much of each other but don't let that stop you from reaching out with any questions you may have. My place is 20 minutes to Washington, DC, . Nearest Metro 12 minutes-parking available. Fairfax 10 minutes. Old Town Alexandria 17 minutes. Railroad Station 8 minutes. George Mason University, 10 minutes. I-95, 5 minutes. All times are drive times. There is no bus line. The studio is in its own building and is very private. There is a shopping center 2 miles away with a large grocery, Starbucks, Five Guys, Pizza and pasta restaurant, Chinese restaurant, liquor store, dry cleaning, bank, etc. It is about 10 minutes by car to the metro or train. It is not realistic to walk to the metro. There is no bus line. Washington DC is host to numerous museums, most of which are free. Old Town Alexandria is a charming old city full of history and restaurants. Manassas Battlefield is a very significant civil war site. National Harbor on the Potomac River is home to the new MGM Casino and Hotel. I will gladly provide maps showing points of interest, the metro system and roads upon request.
