Guest Cruise down the driveway to our detached, private guest cottage situated on a picturesque tidal fjord on a sprawling one acre property. Watch the tides roll in and out twice a day. Play on the water, or take a walk on the flats when the tide is out -- and later that very same day, you are paddling or swimming over that same area! These tides are what makes the water incredibly warm (warmest water in Secret Cove) and delightful to swim in! Also, we're on an estuary here, which tends to attract wildlife. Amazing bird-watching with majestic eagle sightings daily. Go for a swim in the calm, clear, warm water which comes down fresh from nearby waterfalls and merges with the salt water from the cove, which flows into the inlet, and then into the strait and eventually into the Pacific Ocean. There are countless areas to explore in a kayak or canoe. It's truly magical! And if the water isn’t your thing, then there is excellent hiking just minutes away at Smuggler Cove or Homesite Creek, and many lakes to visit, and the famed Skookumchuck Narrows Rapids. (One of Canada's natural wonders!) The Hideaway is centrally located, which is very convenient for exploration. I highly recommend googling your outdoor interests/activities according to your family's interests and making up your dream Sunshine Coast itinerary for your visit! Guest Our guests will have use of all our water toys: such as 2 stand up paddleboards (Lifetime Freestyle XL), 2 sit-in kayaks (Pelican Summit 100 sit-in), 1 sit-on kayak (great for kids), a Coleman 15' canoe, and floaty toys to be wonderfully lazy on. Just take your pick! No hassles or fees to rent or bring your own. We have it all right here for our guests as an extra perk for choosing The Hideaway. Safety is important to us too, so we have life jackets in various sizes for you to use. (*Note: we do not have kids/toddler/infant sizes. Please bring your own.) The Hideaway is right on the water, and on the very mouth of the cove, where it starts off shallow and gradually deepens. *IMPORTANT! Don't forget to bring your water shoes! (For BC's typically rugged rocky coastline.) Also, we recommend you look up "tides in Halfmoon Bay" or get the great free app "Tides" to make the most of your water fun in a tidal area such as this. For those who’d prefer to just kick back and relax -- and many do! -- there are several loungers that you may move to your chosen spot on the sprawling grounds, and there are two outdoor sitting areas with table and chairs (pick your view: forest or water today?), and also a full size BBQ to cook delicious feasts with a water view. The kitchen has all the usual tools, and much much more. Just bring your ingredients! We like our guests to have privacy, but I'm always a text away, if you need anything, or have any questions. Guest The neighbourhood is centrally located smack dab in the middle of the Sunshine Coast, which is perfect for day trips, and it's very quiet and peaceful. Year around, you will hear the water outside, as it rolls by in the waterway. During spring, you'll hear a delightful chorus of frogs at night, and wake up to a symphony of different birds singing. And there's always the gentle sound of the breeze through the trees. It's a lushly forested paradise here! There's almost no traffic sounds, or noisy people hollering at night. Serenity at it's finest. In the off season, you will hear the sound of the waterfalls, and the roar of the estuary, as the water rushes by even more forcefully. Every season is a breathtakingly beautiful and unique experience. (That's why we moved here!) The city will melt away... You'll see! You'll leave extremely rested, recharged and refreshed, and ready to take on city life once again. :) Secret Cove, is an area of Halfmoon Bay which is in central Sunshine Coast and yet it's somewhat tucked away from all the hubbub, hence the peacefulness and feeling of seclusion, so you absolutely need a vehicle to get around. Downtown Sechelt is a short 17 minute drive South, where you'll find anything you need. In a pinch, there is the historic Halfmoon Bay General Store just a few minutes away, where you can pick up food, toiletries, or shop the liquor store, or grab coffee or a snack at the cafe. Going the other way -- North -- you will find your way to Madeira Park, Ruby Lake, and Pender Harbour -- with numerous lakes for day trips and picnics, and the famous Skookumchuck Narrows rapids, which is a natural wonder of BC! Virtually everywhere is a very scenic drive with long stretches of ocean views. You'll fall in love with the coastal lifestyle. Come get a piece of it at The Hideaway! Guest *PLEASE NOTE: The Hideaway is lovingly welcome to everyone, but is best suited to families with older kiddos (6+ suggested), all couples, and more mobile folks -- as it’s a larger property with several areas for your use and various activities to enjoy to maximize your fun/value. Also, please know it’s super quiet here, so it’s best suited for those who appreciate the peace and serenity of nature. It's a place to get a "reset" from city life! (*BE AWARE: THE HIDEAWAY IS NOT SUITABLE FOR GROUPS OF FRIENDS WHO WISH TO RENT A PLACE TO PARTY. You'd be seriously missing the point of this peaceful location!) The cottage itself is quite accessible and spacious to move about in, with some single grab bars in the bathroom/tub area. Be aware we do NOT have any special equipment other than that. And not all areas outside are easily accessible for those with limited mobility.
