Thornbank Farm is bursting with history and tranquility. Rev. James Ross established The West River Seminary and Theological Hall here at this very site. Ross would later become President at Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS. The Farm is located on the east side of the West River, between the Durham and Lochbroom Bridges. It is nestled out on a peninsula along the West River. Fields, eagles, and giant old growth Maple trees compliment the overwhelming peacefulness of the West River. Guests to Thornbank are welcome to wonder the fields and 10 acre property along the river. A dock at the river provides a launching point for the two paddle boards available here for use. Feel free to go for a swim as well or just hang out in the Adirondack chairs at the river. A large bonfire pit is a welcoming end to an evening, and guests are more than welcome to enjoy a nice evening fire and marshmallows;) There are plenty of wonderful natural areas to explore within a short drive from Thornbank. Fitzpatrick’s Mountain in the village of Scotsburn has great hiking and mountain biking trails. Tennis courts can also be found in the village. The Northumberland Strait is just 15 minutes drive and offers wonderful beaches and picnic opportunities at Caribou-Munro’s Island Provincial Park. The historic town of Pictou, Birthplace of Nova Scotia, is only a 10 min drive away. The towns of New Glasgow, Westville, Stellarton, and Trenton are also all under a 20 minute drive.
