Our Security manager will give you access to the property. The property is located right on Vega Baja Urban center in front of the Municipality Police building. It is within a short walk from local market and many great restaurants, cafes, pharmacies. We will be available to assist you in case of any emergency. The host lives close to the Melao Lodge. Vega Baja is a coastal town just a 40-minute drive from the airport! Melao Lodge is located in the Vega Baja "pueblo" (town, historic district), just a short drive away (10-15 minutes) from one of the most beautiful beaches in Puerto Rico (Playa Puerto Nuevo), natural reserves, and incredible culinary experiences. For surfers and wave lovers, we are also a short drive away from Los Tubos Beach, and snorkeling fans should visit Mar Chiquita Beach. For the nature lovers and adventure seekers, we have the local Charco Azul, a beautiful system of caves, ponds, and rivers, and Roca Norte for rock climbing. El Yunque National Forest is worth the drive and a must-see! A drive up the mountains can take you to the incredible Toro Verde Adventure Park (ziplining, rope courses) in Orocovis, or to the Cavernas de Camuy, one of the world's largest cave networks. If you're looking for an active nightlife, we are just 30-40 minutes away from the downtown and capital city of San Juan! MELAO can be translated as "cane syrup", and our name honors the rich history of Vega Baja's old sugarcane industry. As a matter of fact, the first sugarcane refinery in Puerto Rico, Central San Vicente, was established in this town in 1873! You will find little tributes to this "melao" and other famous individuals from Vega Baja throughout the Lodge. We recommend to tourist who come outside the Island, RENTING A VEHICLE in order to fully enjoy all that the beautiful island of Puerto Rico has to offer. Our location is perfect. We provide one free parking spot per reserved room. Uber and taxi services are available at the airport. Melao is located within walking distance from a small farmer's market, several pharmacies, local shops and discount stores, museums, and some local restaurants. PET POLICY: - Cats and small dogs are allowed at the discretion of the host. Pet fee: $20. - Pet parents are responsible for cleaning after their pets when outside. We recommend having dogs inside the room, and leashed when walking/ (many cars drive through the neighborhood). - Please be respectful of other guests. ACCESSIBILITY - Melao Lodge is on the second floor of the building and the only way to access it is through our private staircase. COMMON AREAS - The kitchen is available for any guest to use. Please be courteous and clean after yourself. PARKING: - One free parking space per room. The parking lot is gated and keypad-controlled. There is a security camera overlooking the area.
