Tranquil Farm - Woodland Eco Cottage
Tranquil Farm cottage totally off the grid. An open plan spacious cabin in a small woodland surrounded by nature. Ducks and chickens meander around, and my dogs will visit on a regular basis. The valley is in an area that is fairly central on the island - giving easy access to the calm Caribbean beaches on the West coast of Antigua, but still only 20 minutes to English Harbour and its evening fun with lots of bars and restaurants or 20 minutes North to St. John's the capital. The cottage is Caribbean style, its walls covered in wooden shingles, with shuttered windows and a large open deck. It is tucked away in a remote and wooded valley. The kitchen is open sided, birds flying through! A three burner stove and under counter gas fridge. There is everything you would need from espresso coffee maker to knife sharpener! The pots and pans hang on the wall. The cabin is totally eco and is powered with solar energy, the sockets are 110v USA with a 1000 watt inverter. All the water is rain water. The shower is open to the woods, the side tactfully comes to chest height! The bedroom is large with windows on 3 sides. The door on the 4th side leads Narnia like through the wardrobe to the kitchen and on to the bathroom. From the netted four poster bed, you look through balcony and garden to the hills covered in lemon grass. There are comfy chairs and a hammock on the balcony, perfect for a lounge with a book ( No books at the moment I am afraid, a Tourist Board requirement for Covid approval) and a glass of wine...or two! The cottage is in my garden, and has a garden of its own with teak lounge chairs for you to watch the stars or sunbathe. Although we are in this is a fairly hidden valley it is only a short, and rather lovely drive down Fig Tree Drive ( also known as the Rain Forest Road), to the nearest beach at Carlisle Bay. Beyond Carlisle Bay are some of the best beaches in Antigua laid out before you along the West Coast, and the Caribbean sea. The cottage is your home while you are here, the 2 cabins and my own home are nearby. The drive leads naturally into the valley and the surrounding countryside. The road is fairly quiet, so there is no problem walking along down through lemon grass and mango trees. If I am at home do feel free to come and ask any questions, I love meeting the people who come and stay - I will otherwise leave you alone to have your holiday! Although my house in the same area so I cannot see nor do I hear music or indeed anything from the cottage. We live in a fairly remote spot about half a mile from the nearest village - usually peaceful with the sounds of nature . Thats not to say that nature is always quiet - tree frogs, crickets, neighbouring dogs and the odd donkey can be a bit of a surprise! Also, as I write this in March 2022, my neighbour is doing some land clearing for his farm. It seems a little development is arriving into the valley. During the day its not always as as quiet as it once was. The nearest shop is about a 5 minute drive in the village of Swetes. There are vendors along the road for vegetables, and on Friday and Saturdays places selling local food. Its about 20 minutes South to English Harbours with a good selection of restaurants and bars, and actually most shopping that you would need with a good pharmacy and small supermarkets. or North to St. Johns for big supermarkets and everything else ! Most of the beaches are about 20 + minutes along the West Coast, or East about 35 minutes to Half Moon Bay over on the East Coast. None are far away ! We are remote, about half a mile from the village of Sawcolts which has a bus occasionally, usually very early in the morning so I would say "no public transport" in easy reach. A 4WD is best for most of the island , the old concrete public road is not great but is passable in a car if you are careful and go slow. The driveway has one or two large protruding Stone’s so watch for them. Again go slow and you should be fine. A note : GPS will take you on a route to the cottage via a road called "Bendals Main Road". This road is not longer passable unless you want to do some serious off roading! When coming from the airport please use the map I send. The power for the cottage is solar There is a light that you can turn on the lights up the path, it has a small remote. Try and remember to turn it off when you return from a night out, its runs from the cottage batteries.
