This bungalow has been in my family since 1963. When a Cape Bretoner says 'bungalow' we are referring to what the rest of the world knows as a cottage. If you are looking for a simple place on the water where you can relax, this is the place for you. If you are looking for the Ritz, keep looking. The bungalow is an old building that has been added on to many times so the rooms are small. It is not much but my family loved it and I want to share it with others who will appreciate it's simplicity. You have access to the whole property. Even though the bungalow is only 550 sq. ft there are plenty of places to sit and still have room to move around. There is a washer and dryer for your use and an air conditioner for our occasional hot days and nights. The back deck has a Bar-B-Q and a table for outdoor meals, the best part is beautiful view of the lake. There is a fire pit area near the water with kindling and firewood ready to burn and lots of camp chairs and benches. The lake is fresh water and is good for swimming. The beach has smooth pebbles but there are muscle shells in the water that can be sharp, it would be wise to pack water shoes especially for the young ones. If it rains there are DVD movies to watch, books to read, games to play, and even some arts and craft supplies. A great place to get away as a family or to stay while enjoying all Cape Breton Island has to offer. FYI, if you are over 6'-2" you might find the 7'-1" ceilings a bit low, especially in the shower where the headroom is only 6'-4". The space between the bunk bed and the wall to access the bottom bunk is as narrow as it looks in the picture, because of that the ladder to access the top bunk is at the end. You can access the whole property except for the garage and the attic. You will be the only people on the property so if you are needing to self-isolate this is the perfect place to do it. There is a 12' aluminum row boat, a canoe, a tandem kayak, and two single kayaks for rent for a flat fee based on the length of your stay. Please contact us for the fee amount and the waiver. I have a variety of sizes of life jackets and supply the boat safety gear also. Sadly, after August 14th 2022 I can not rent out the boats, unless I can source another insurance company to cover them. I do not live in the area, but I do have family and friends that are very close and if something needs fixing or attended to, I can contact one of them. Each guest gets their own key code for the electronic door lock sent to them prior to arrival. You may contact me by text or by phone anytime day or night. Capers are a proud bunch and very friendly. You will be called 'dear' a lot or 'hun' or even 'darling' by the locals. They are not trying to be fresh that is just how we say 'buddy or bud'. There is a small drug / convenience store about 4 kms (2.5 m) away if you need something quick. There is a drive-thru Tim Horton's coffee shop only .5 kms further that is next to another convenience store. Within 12 kms (7.5 m) there are 2 full size grocery stores, a Walmart, Liquor Store, 4 pizza restaurants, 2 family restaurants, several fast food places, 3 more Tim Horton's and another drug store. So nothing is far away even though you will feel like you are in the country. The bungalow is still close to the city of Sydney and to the highways for quick access to head out exploring our beautiful Cape Breton Island. There are maps and selection of pamphlets and brochures that I have collected for local businesses and attactions to help you to plan your time. If you want a Tim Horton's coffee in the morning there is one only a short 5 minute drive away. If that is too far there is a Keurig and a drip coffee maker available in the bungalow and coffee and tea are supplied. There are several golf courses with-in a short driving distance, Seaview Golf, The Lakes, Lingan Golf, and several smaller 9 hole courses to name a few. Just a short 1 km drive towards town there is a hiking trail that takes you up Coxheath Hill to a panoramic view of Sydney and even North Sydney. Several kms the other way you will find Gillis' Lake Falls, just do an internet search for it to find the directions. There is a 22" W x 30" D x 22" H pet crate available that is suitable for a small or smallish medium sized dog if you need one.
