El Sagrado: Private park setting sanctuary
This is a new custom designed private home with large deck, temascal (sauna), gardens and panoramic views of Lake Atitlan. The house faces due south toward Santiago Atitlan across the lake framed by 3 volcanoes. Welcome to the eco-friendly, permaculture-style, garden setting at Lake Atitlan. The cliff-side location provides seclusion and breathtaking lake views. The house is an open concept with queen size bed and deckside couch/bed to accommodate an additional overnight guest. Shower also provides an open vista. We are connected to the municipal water supply (spring fed) with enough storage to offer adequate water for normal use. We also use solar electricity for lights and fridge. Cozy fireplace with enough wood to get you started. Same with the wood fired temascal (sauna). There is a dry composting toilet a short stroll from the house so if a flush toilet is a must for you then please continue your search. Solar heated hot water provides very hot water by gravity from above. Like the electricity you must be prepared to exercise reasonable consumption of precious water. There is a 3-stage water filtration system providing potable drinking water. Wifi is available. Small satellite speakers. A local person will tend to the gardens (watering etc.) with minimal disturbance. Someone will meet you and show you to the property. There are usually greens in the garden for your salad and often fruit on the trees. Guests enjoy access to the entire house and surrounding gardens Local Spanish speaking property manager is available to meet and explain. Owner available by email. Located in the Mayan village of Tzununa (population 3000) on the north shore of Lake Atitlan. Usually approached by public boat from Panajachel. There are a variety of activities such as hiking and visiting the many nearby villages surrounding the lake, each a different and unique flavour. You can walk to San Marcos in 40 minutes. There are local yoga ashrams, permaculture/natural building courses plus a wide variety of food nd healing therapies offered in the surrounding area. Usually approached by public boat from Panajachel, the house is a 10 minute walk up a private path from the road in Tzununa. Rental is available from time to time when the owner is abroad or volunteering. All proceeds from the rental go to support local families and social programs including the humanitarian mobile dental service offered by the owner.
