Casa Pitaya on Lake Atitlán, Mayan Paradise

This home is a perfect getaway for couples or friends who want to experience life in a traditional Mayan town. Santiago is known for its superb textiles. The back garden sauna and outside shower, are the perfect way to end a day! The gardens are beautiful and immaculately cared for. There are restaurants within walking distance, and even takeout if you prefer. The town center is a 15-20 minute walk, or take a tuktuk. Come, relax on the deck, and enjoy your stay, and the “$ zillion” view! The house is yours to enjoy. I ask that you keep the house and outside gates closed and locked when you are away. The house is accessed by walking down an eighth of a mile trail. You will initially be met by the guardian to assist you with your luggage and introduce you to the property, as well as provide you with keys. Checkin is between 3:00 and 8:00 PM. He will also assist you when you depart. If you need to have laundry done, that can be arranged for a reasonable fee. The sauna can also be accessed by prior arrangement and fee My guardian knows a little English, and he is more than happy to communicate with you to practice it! There are many people in the neighborhood who do speak English, and I am happy to answer all questions you might have throughout your stay via email. The property goes down to the lake. There is a historical path running across the property between the two lower gardens. This path is accessed daily by locals. Cayucos, dug out canoes, are still an important form of transportation on the lake. If you would like to experience a paddle, you can arrange that with the guardian. He will know the current prices. My hope is that you will enjoy the environment, and experience as much of it as you desire. There is no parking or car access to the house and property. If you are arriving by private car, plan on making your reservation well in advance and we will try to accommodate parking nearby if possible. Most guests come by private taxi service, or boat, and arrangements can be made in advance to help you arrive at the house. There is an information sheet inside the house with WiFi information and guest rules. Although located at 5100’, Atitlán is in the tropics, so attention to food preparation, cleanup, and storage is always important to prevent any little ants from moving in!
