This cozy, family-friendly 2-bedroom cottage is located 10 miles from town and has sweeping views of Lutak Inlet and the sandy beach where bears and eagles congregate daily. A newly expanded deck and outdoor seating let you eat outside while watching bears play on the beach. Chilkoot Lake and River are a five-minute walk away and provide fishing for salmon and trout. A grassy yard and a partially covered porch provide views of the ocean and beach. Truly the best location in Haines! The cottage is set up for 3 adults or a family of 4. A sandbox, swingset and some toys are available for kids while adults have a TV and DVD's as well as a well-stocked bookshelf and set of board games. Enjoy eating dinner on the wrap-around porch while watching eagles and bears or eat inside and watch through the window. A patio offers more outdoor space and the beach is in your front yard. Your stay will be made easier with a washer/dryer, basic condiments and spices, an assortment of jams, coffee, a full cook set and all towels and linens needed. The large bedroom features a queen bed and the smaller has a twin plus a floor mattress with linens. Enjoy the entire cottage and the yard on both sides of the house. A cleared path through the beach grass to the beach is right in front of the house. We respond immediately to any concerns or issues and will leave our number in the cottage. Lutak is a close-knit neighborhood where everyone knows each other and looks out for everyone else. We feel that we live in one of the most unique places around--we have the ocean, river, beach and a lake all in our front yard. Who else can say they watch bears from their dining room table? The Chilkoot River empties into the ocean right in front of the house and at low tide, you can walk out on the beach flats. The best fishing is along the river upstream of the bridge (about a 10-minute walk) or the lake (about 1 mile). Be bear aware. There are lots of bears in the area and while they don't cause problems, they will be attracted to smells. Please do not clean any fish on the property. Please clean fish at the river. Please drive slowly through the neighborhood.
