The Normaway Inn
This 250 acre property surrounded by the foot hills of the Cape Breton Highlands is located near the beginning of the Cabot Trail. With it's unique Scotch Pine entrance, the Inn is in a world of its own, with an athmosphere of tranquility that assures rest and relaxation. The nine bedrooms, each with private bath and individual heat control, are distinctive and cozy. The centrally located living room features a fieldstone fireplace and is a common room for all or our guests. The property was settled in 1829 by Daniel MacPherson who emigrated from the Isle of Skye, Scotland. His son Norman homesteaded and raised his family of six. The Inn was completed in 1928 by Norman's son George, after returning from the United States. The Innkeeper's father purchased the property in 1944 and it has been run by the MacDonald Family ever since. The Normaway has been a favorite for vacationers and sportsman for over 80 years. Out door activities abound in this area with hiking, whale watching, fly fishing, river tubing, paddle boarding and kayaking to name but a few.
