You will enjoy a shared wrap around open porch overlooking mature gardens, and a cozy second floor sun porch with sunset views. Yours is a private second floor suite in a large Queen Anne Victorian with a private bath. For your safety and convenience, we only book one couple or family group at a time. If you would like to book another room for members of your party, please let us know. Rates include a continental breakfast. We put out coffee and tea out at 8:00 am and serve continental breakfast between 8:30 and 10am. Guests are invited to join us at our beautiful Shaker dining table, or weather permitting, on our 75-foot-long shaded porch stretching the length of the 1880 Maple House looking out over our private garden. Norfolk has been known for more than 100 years as a wonderful escape from the stress and heat of the city. Consistently 10 degrees cooler than surrounding areas, Norfolk has become a haven for artists, including painters, sculptors, photographers, writers and musicians, many of them associated with the Yale Summer School of Art and Music located across the village green from the Maple House. Noted watercolor artist and instructor Pamela Harnois keeps her Maple House Studio on our third floor. We were weekenders here in Norfolk for 24 years, and are thrilled to be living here full-time. We welcome guests arriving between 3 pm and 10pm and are happy to share recommendations for restaurants and activities. Rate is for double occupancy. If there are more than two in your party, we can add another guest room for you at an additional charge. We have a 2 night minimum stay, and offer discount for stays of 5+ nights. The entire Maple House, which sleeps up to 8 people, can be booked for groups, wedding parties, writers retreats, family reunions or group retreats. In addition to your second floor private suite, guests enjoy shared access to the beautiful porch with multiple seating areas,, a screened in upstairs sun porch and a sunny sitting area overlooking the side and rear gardens. This is our home, and after spending weekends and vacations here for 24 years, we recently relocated back to Norfolk from Los Angeles.
