Built in 1907 as the private residence of Henry Fries Shaffner, the co-founder of Wachovia Loan and Trust, this extravagant Victorian-style mansion boasts Tiger oak hand-carved paneling, original coal-burning fireplaces, a grand staircase and priceless antiques. This 8-bedroom bed and breakfast is perfect for quiet nights away or corporate and private events. Located in downtown Winston-Salem, it is walking-distance to a multitude of the city’s best restaurants, bars and shops. The Wachovia room is a romantic haven featuring beautiful and traditional English elegance. This spacious suite is located on the second floor and features a luxurious and comfortable four-poster king-size bed and two royal blue wingback chairs for lounging, which match the stunning blue fireplace (non-operational) with original tile and cover from the early 1900s. A special feature of the Wachovia is a separate dressing and seating area with vanity, perfect for getting ready for dinner on the town or a quiet night in. A Victorian-inspired en-suite bath provides a relaxing claw-foot soaking tub and a separate step-in shower. This room can become a two-room suite when joined with the Reynolda room, if you are traveling with family or friends. The Shaffner has retained historic charm while expanding to include modern amenities such as free WiFi, 43” smart, flat-screen TVs, alarm/clock and USB charging stations. Each room is outfitted with luxurious Matouk linens, duvets, pillows, robes and monogrammed towels, as well as Peacock Alley blankets and monogrammed pillows. For your convenience, we also provide complimentary face wash, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, as well as an iron, ironing board, and hairdryer. In addition, you will have access to comfortable common areas indoors and outdoors, as well as a private parking lot.
