Castle Bay Cottage

This adorable completely re-modeled cottage is steps away from the beautiful, sandy, salt water beach known as Coolen's Beach in Shad Bay, Nova Scotia. Twenty minutes from Halifax with hiking, kayaking, golf courses and restaurants all close by and scenic Peggy's Cove a short 20 minute drive away. We have created a charming and super comfortable retreat. We are sure our guests will enjoy the relaxing, peaceful vibe that this hidden little gem offers. In addition to the queen size bed in the bedroom, the pull out futon bed in the back room and the queen size pull out sofa bed in the living room, there is a sleeping loft (much like a bunk bed) that is suitable for older children and adults (see pictures in the listing). The sleeping loft is a cozy little area ideal for an extra sleeping space and our guests are welcome to use it but please be aware that it is accessed by a small set of rather steep steps that require some level of physical fitness to get up and down. It is probably not suitable for most seniors and definitely not suitable for very young children. Please use at your own discretion and risk. You will have the entire cottage to yourselves. Please let us know if you have any special requests - we will try our best to accommodate. We are not far away if you need anything but we do respect the privacy of our guests at all times and will only interact with you if you require something or would like to meet us personally. The cottage is tucked just far enough away from the main road so that you won't hear any main road traffic noise. It is located on a small, very quiet, dead end road with only a few other dwellings in proximity. The cottage does not have a view of the water but is just steps away from a lovely little ocean beach. Guests have access to the beach (Coolen's Beach) which is a very short, 2 minute walk away. It is a very peaceful setting where we invite you to sit and rock quietly on the front porch or relax on the back deck while enjoying the sweet serenade of the birds singing. At times when the night is very still you may hear the sound of coyotes howling in the distance. If you are an early riser, you may on occasion, see a few of the deer and rabbits that stop by for a graze in the area which many years ago was a farm and apple orchid. On site parking is provided. There is no public transit in the area so a vehicle is necessary. Please enjoy the barbecue, propane fire table and the patio furniture which are located on the back deck. Please be sure that the propane tank gauges for the barbecue and fire table are shut to "off" after each use. Furniture cushions are stowed in the deck box. As it can get damp in the evenings, please re stow the cushions in the deck box each evening in order to maintain their good condition.
