Bermuda Public Holidays: Bermuda Public Holidays are especially great times to visit the Island as there usually are many celebrations and festive events happening. Brmuda observes the following public holidays: New Year's Day- January 1 Good FridayFriday - Friday before Easter Sunday Bermuda Day-May 24 National Heroes Day- Third Monday in June Emancipation Day (Cup Match) either last Thursday in July or the first Thursday in August Somer's Day (Cup Match) either the last Friday in July or the first Friday in August Labour Day- First Monday in September Remembrance Day - November 11 Christmas Day - December 25 Boxing Day - December 26 Bermudian idiosyncrasies: Bermudians are very friendly and helpfull. We greet each other and total strangers in stores, restaurants, in passing on the street, entering the bus or ferry etc. with “Good morning”, “Good afternoon” or “Good evening” - irrespective of our moods. These phrases are generally the precursor to any conversation a person initiates with another individual. Starting a conversation with someone without the formality of a greeting or salutation first is considered to be bad manners by many Bermudians and while they usually would be too polite to openly rebuff you, you possibly might not get the level of warmth, or enthusiastic response for which we are known. TRAVEL TIP: When out and about, be sure to use these greetings when encountering people - especially if you need information or assistance. Nine times out of ten you will be rewarded with the most “Bermudaful” smiles and people will go out of their way to help you. A friendly smile and "thank you" during these encounters is virtually guaranteed to make them friends for life!
