As mentioned the neighborhood is settled between the mountains and the sea on one of PR's most famous seaside scenic drives. It offers great beaches, there is a surf beach nearby, restaurants, beautiful views, and, as mentioned, it is about a half hour drive through mountains to the pig roast "lechoneros" in Guavate which have been featured on the Food Network on several occasions. It is quiet and tranquil, surrounded by nature, but a short drive to grocery stores, drug stores and a small mall. When the waves are calm snorkeling right across the street is excellent and visitors come from all over to collect sea glass. There is a restaurant - Musafas - about a five minute walk to the left, that features Caribbean seafood and live music on the weekends. A zillion stars come out a night and it is mostly just quiet and relaxing. The best way to get around is by car. If you are from abroad rental cars can be picked up at the airport at SJU international airport. The beach house is about an hour from San Juan and about forty minutes Fajardo and the ferry which will take you to the nearby Puerto Rican Virgin Islands - Vieques and Culebra. It is suggested to bring sturdy sandals. Some of the most beautiful beaches have coral bottoms in between sandy patches and a number of the beaches are rocky. There is also some sandy beaches and some really long sandy beaches in Villa Pesquera or next door in Maunabo. Take the road which links PATILLAS to Maunabo — more incredible views.
