PLEASE NOTE: this is Guatemala and there are occasions when the electricity may go and with it water and the internet. This does not happen very often and we do our very best to make sure it is for a short a time as possible, but we are not in control of the Electricity company and the weather, which affects it and the internet signals, which are all via cellular towers. TEMPORARY NOTE: There is construction work going on in front of the house, which means sometimes there is some noise. We apologise for this in advance, and as a result have reduced our prices, sadly this is beyond our control. Hopefully it will finish soon! A comprehensive set of Welcome Notes are in the house for guests information. Access is along a paved pathway from a road in central San Marcos. Only about 50m. Please be sure to give your arrival time at least 24 hrs in advance, so we are prepared. We will need to be called or contacted half an hour before you arrive in Pana and getting onto a public boat. Public boats are Q20pp and take you to the main dock, where the guardian can meet you to help you with your luggage. From here however, it is a good 15 min walk up a gentle slope, so you might prefer to arrange a private boat which can be met by tuk tuks. We can happily arrange transport via public or private shuttle bus/van to Panajachel (Pana) the transport hub for Lake Atitlan and then a private boat to the old dock in San Marcos, if you wish. The guardian, Lucas, can then meet you there with tuk tuks to take you and your luggage to the house. The public dock is only accessible by a pedestrian pathway, so luggage has to be carried! Please be sure to arrange all this with the managers prior to arrival. Thank you. There is a guest book for comments and suggestions too, to share for future guests There are property managers based in Pana, but who are always available to answer questions and help with transport. But the on-site guardian, Lucas, is extremely helpful and should be able to help you out with most things. San Marcos is one of the most popular villages around the lake to visit and for foreigners to live. It is known as the holistic centre of Lake Atitlan. Here you can find a multitude of alternative therapy centres, massage therapist, as well as meditation and yoga centres. People come from all over the world to get treatments here and attend courses. It also boasts a wonderful array of restaurants, bars and cafes offering good food and company. San Marcos is mainly accessed by boats (lanchas) that plough back and forth along the north shore approx. every 20 mins from 6am-5pm. It is about a 30 min ride to Pana(jachel) the commercial and transport hub of Lake Atitlan and probably where you will arrive and from where you will need to take a boat to get to San Marcos. Although there is a road to San Marcos it is not advisable to use this route as the road is unkept. In Pana you will find everything you need for grocery and market shopping along with banks and ATMs, none of these are available in San Marcos except a few dry goods and some fruit and veggies. San Marcos is small and walkable. Transport around the lake is almost solely by boat/lancha. These ply back and forth every day from 6am - 5pm, more or less every 20 minutes, passing by San Marcos' public dock. There is a road from San Marcos to the next village of Tzununa, but no further than that along the North shore. The other side of town a road leads to the villages of San Pablo, San Juan and San Pedro. These can be accessed by tuk tuk. Boat access is to San Pedro, San Juan, Tzununa, Jaibalito, Santa Cruz. Pana. And then from Pana across to Santiago Atitlan. Santiago Atitlan, can also be reached by boat from San Pedro. We would like to bring to guests attention that this is a rural area of Guatemala. As a result, from time to time there may be electrical outings. Usually this doesn't last for much longer than 5-20 mins, but it will affect the internet. Also, most of Guatemala does NOT have the high speed internet that guests might be used to at home. Please be aware that this rental, and pretty much all rentals and hotels that offer WiFi, will only be offering about 12-3 mb of speed. This is usually plenty to check emails and video chat, but not for streaming. This can be increased for an extra charge up to 10mb. PLEASE NOTE THERE ARE 2 DOGS ON THE PREMISES FOR SECURITY. They are friendly dogs :) TEMPORARY NOTE: There is construction work going on in front of the house, which means sometimes there is some noise. We apologise for this in advance, but it is beyond our control. Hopefully it will finish soon!
