Cerro de Oro is believed to be the snake that swallowed an elefant in Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's Little Prince. He had an airplane accident in Guatemala and spent 3 months in Antigua traveling to Lake Atitlan. Cerro de Oro is a peaceful and religious local community, at night you can appreciate how they decorate the tuktuks with lights from the terrace, the town sleeps early and wakes up early. During the day you can hike the Cerro de Oro and have a spectacular view of the lake. Ask Diego to take you. House is located by a road where you can ride a pickup truck or a tuk-tuk to go around town or go to Santiago where there is a big market and fine wood carvings, paintings and crafts. From Santiago you can take public boats and visit other towns. A tip to Diego the keeper is appreciated for good service. Search for map location before going and it is a must to travel during the day. Plan your drive in advance with GPS phone map or Waze. Remember you are in a rural place, bugs are normal inhabitants. We clean and fumigate the house very well. I suggest hiring cleaning service to prevent crawling bugs in longer stays, hire with Diego and pay him directly, suggested price is Q50 a day. I get less stars on location (we are in the south side of the lake) and bugs, remember it is rural and it depends on weather and time of year, we work hard for the super-host status.
