We are located in the hamlet of Jaibalito on the Lake Atitlan, only reachable by boat: We’re close to the water (50 meters), but also in town. You’ll love our house because of its comfy beds and linens, beautiful decor with different areas around the property to enjoy. Our place is best suited for people looking for comfort and quiet while visiting the area. To see our other rooms; click on my profile and on the photo. We have 6 rooms and two bathrooms: 3 bedrooms upstairs in the main house and three in the garden casita. Each room has comfy beds and great bedding, bedside tables with lamps, clocks, colorful cushions, local decorations, some books as well as extra blankets. The shared outside kitchen is a lovely area, covered in vines with hanging flowers and lots of colors. We count on our guest to keep the common areas clean for everyone to enjoy. Casa Vivare is 50 meters from the lake. We have a separate front gate from the street for guests. You have the view of the lake from our front balcony From the areas in back and the guest kitchen, you see the mountains around our village. Our village is small: You can walk to the lake in less than a minute. There is a restaurant across the street with amazing views and a little store at a 2 minute walk. If you walk all the way to the back of the village, it will take you about 8 minutes. Note: The bottom floor of the house and the front garden are our own private living area. I have worked in the travel industry for years and my co-hosts are very familiar with the area and in daily contact with me, so we can help guests will all their arrangements to get to and from the lake as well as with information on local excursion options, but also shopping options, hiking advise and so on. Ask us anything! Our village: The quaint Mayan hamlet of Jaibalito is located on the north shore of Lake Atitlan as part of the municipality of Santa Cruz la Laguna; a town located to the east of us. Its location on the lake makes it ideal for exploring the area. Casa Vivare is at the entrance to the village, a 2-minute walk up from the public dock where the boats from San Pedro and Panajachel arrive. People in Jaibalito are very friendly; it is common to greet everyone you encounter. Activities include hiking, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding and exploring Mayan villages. Dress respectfully: When hiking in our town, the countryside, visiting villages, or strolling through markets, please do not wear bathing suits, short shorts or skimpy clothes. Make sure to respect local cultural norms. Visiting the area: The best way to get around the lake is to take a public boat (lancha) to the different villages. Boats run about every 30-45 minutes in both directions. The first one leaves Jaibalito to go to Panajachel around 06:30h and the last one leaves around 17:30h. In the other direction, boats start around 06:30h towards San Pedro; last one is at 19:00h. The only official stop between Panajachel and Jaibalito is Santa Cruz, but it is possible they pull up to private hotel docks along the way. Beware of taking the “last lancha”, because they are often filled to capacity and travel slowly. When you tell the captain you want to get off in Jaibalito, they may ask if you mean Casa del Mundo or Ven Aca. Just let them know you want the 'muelle publico', the public dock. On the way to San Pedro, the lancha normally stops in Tzununa, San Marcos (San Pablo and San Juan if requested). The following lancha fares are approximate: Jaibalito to Panajachel: Q15-20 Jaibalito to Santa Cruz: Q10 Jaibalito to Tzununa: Q10 Jaibalito to San Marcos: Q15 Jaibalito to San Pedro or San Juan: Q20-25 San Pedro to San Marcos: Q10-15 Santa Cruz to Panajachel: Q10-15 You’ll find TukTuks (mototaxi's) in all towns on the lake to make getting up hill easier. In Panajachel and San Pedro you there are travel agencies that provide shared-ride shuttles to any destination in Guatemala and beyond. In those two locations you will also find chicken buses (camionetas) with direct or connecting services to Sololá, Quetzaltenango, San Lucas and Santiago Toliman, Quetzaltenango, Antigua and Guatemala City. * Jaibalito is only reachable by boat across the lake Atitlan.
