Perched on a secluded cliff, it has gorgeous gardens, swimming holes and a hot tub overhanging the lake." - The Lonely Planet Travel Guide. We invite you to make La Casa Del Mundo your home during your visit to Lake Atitlan. Come experience for yourselves what every visitor and travel guide promises. Picture yourself in a balmy resting area during sunset with an aerial view of Lake Atitlan, surrounded by terrace gardens with a scent of Guatemalan cuisine in the air. Rest, read, relax or cuddle in one of our 19 cozy rooms: each with distinct architecture and placement on the cliffside. Enjoy our high quality orthopedic mattresses, solar-heated hot water, handcrafted Mayan decoration and breathtaking panoramas of the lake. In the morning sleep in, enjoy our new and updated breakfast menu or go for a swim. In the evening, venture out to see one of the 13 indigenous villages surrounding the lake or take up a volcano climb and kayak trip. The combination of our "Casa" and the magnificence of the Lake region set the stage for a visit that you will hold in fond memory and hopefully... never forget. La Casa del Mundo is a beautiful eco-hotel and resort, located on the shore of majestic Lake Atitlan. We have a variety of amenities and activities that will add to your experience on the lake. An artisanal steam sauna, wireless internet, book exchange and games, snorkeling sets, and other amenities are complementary. A wood fired hot tub overlooking the lake, kayaks, paddleboards, professional massages, hiking tours, horseback riding tours, cultural tours of the lake, paragliding, and other activities are available at an additional cost. We also have a renowned restaurant offering breakfast, lunch, and family style dinners, with fresh, locally grown ingredients. Bill and Rosy are often (but not always) at the hotel. La Casa del Mundo has a very dedicated team available at the front desk from 7am to 10pm, to answer any questions, suggest activities (based on your personal interests), or help you plan the next leg of your journey. They would be happy to share travel tips and give you advice on what to do while visiting the lake. ACCESSIBLE ONLY BY BOAT, La Casa del Mundo is located near the small lakeshore village of El Jaibalito. El Jaibalito is one of the smallest and most traditional villages on the lake. Here, you can enjoy walking around the town, meeting new people, and appreciating their day to day life. To get to Jaibalito, walk all the way up our staircase (until you meet the trail above us) and take a left OR walk down the staircase (to the lake) and take a right. We are only accessible by boat. Public boats pass by our dock every 20 minutes throughout the day and will gladly drop you off or pick you up there. The cost is Q15 to Q25 per person, depending on your starting point and destination. So from our dock, you have easy access to explore all of the other towns and villages around the lake! We can also help you arrange a private boat to or from any village around the lake, 24 hours a day. The cost varies depending on the time, number of people, and destination. Additionally, we can help arrange a shuttle to pick you up at the airport or drop you off at your next destination, when you leave the hotel. Recycling is practiced by all of our employees and is a very essential part of our waste management. We have succeeded in finding practical methods to recycle, reuse, and reduce all materials we use to fulfill the needs of our guests. All recycled materials are transported out of the hotel. Used plastic bags are washed dried and donated to be used for weaving projects by cultural associations. We protect the hotel’s surrounding waters, as much as we possibly can. Our septic system has been designed to pump all of our drain water up to water treatment tanks well above the hotel. From there, the waste is filtered and then used to irrigate the surrounding forests. Our solar hot water system is self-sustained and it provides the hotel with high pressured hot water 24/7. We recently installed solar panels on one of our patios by the lake. These panels provide a sizable portion of the electricity consumed by the hotel. Our goal is to eventually become 100% self-sufficient, thereby, reducing our carbon footprint.
