Loons Calling Eco-Cabin and Homestead
A rustic eco-retreat in the woods, our cabin runs on renewable energy and is made of reclaimed materials. On the shores of peaceful, pristine Fahi Pond, it's perfect for kayaking, fishing, swimming, and bird-watching. Take our kayaks in the morning to catch moose feeding nearby, or hike and pick wild berries in the surrounding woods. Trails on our property are perfect for ATVing, snowmobiling, or XC skiing! Another favorite activity is reading/relaxing by the pond or campfire. Our cabin is a work in PROGRESS! It is a labor of love, and you will see projects in progress both inside and out. It is also a quirky and unique space created out of reclaimed materials. For example, look for the antique truck wheels which join the joists and beams; and the wood, windows, cabinets, and doors which were saved from landfills. Also know that it is comfortable but rustic. It is in the woods, so expect bugs, some dust, etc. Outdoor enthusiasts will love it, but it's not for everyone! You will have the upper two floors of the house, campfire pit, and 9 acres of woods/trails. You will also have access to our outdoor shower, dock, hammock, and kayaks (all seasonal). If you use the kayaks or boat, you must have ONE PDF PER PERSON at all times. If you come in the winter, access is by snowmobile or on foot only. (Road is not plowed all the way to the house, so it is a 1 mile walk/ski/snowmobile from the parking area.) We will be unavailble in person MOST of the time. Our business partner, however, lives 15 minutes away, and can be available in case assistance is needed. There will be times, however, when we WILL be available in person, and staying in the basement apartment with separate entrance. Guests will have the main the house and outdoor spaces to themselves, with complete privacy. We may occupy the basement apartment for 2-3 days during your stay in order to mow the lawn, complete forest maintenance, etc. We are on a quiet pond surrounded by woods. It is very remote, and peaceful. Often, if you are boating, fishing, or sitting on the dock, you will be the ONLY person in sight! The only sounds at night are likely to be the loons and owls. Hiking, XC skiing, snowmobile, and ATV trails abound. There is a country story and gas station nearby (about 8 minutes drive) called Pinkham"s which carries all the basics. There are some fun things to do nearby such as: whitewater rafting in The Forks, and viewing ancient petroglyphs on the Kennebec River. In nearby Waterville, we recommend the Colby College Art Museum and Railroad Square Cinema, home of the Maine International Film Festival. Our property is remote, and not accessible by public transportation. There is, however, plenty of free parking!
