Casa Madera - Great for small families or couples
Casa Madera offers a fabulous open-air living experience. The large front porch allows you to nap the day/evening away next to the plunge pool as you hang in your Yucatan hammmocks, or while enjoying a cold beverage. The large refrigerator/freezer is a plus for keeping your groceries fresh and your drinks cold (with ice cubes). The six-burner stove is readty to prepare your favorite meals. Teresa is available to cook your meals. She will shop for you and prepare up to three meals/day. Casa Madera is located in Cabo Matapalo, Costa Rica on Playa Pan Dulce (the best beach in the area for safe swimming, sunning and surfing. Our little slice of paradise comes complete with a refreshing plunge pool located directly off the spacious front porch where you will while your time away in our wonderful Yucatan Hammocks. Casa Madera has a fully equipped kitchen, complete with a six-burner stove and a full size conventional refrigerator/freezer. Two bedrooms offer two double beds in each bedroom, with one bedroom being a bunkbed set-up. The bathrooom has a fabulous walk-in shower, large counter space and is ceramic tile, floor to ceiling! To get to the beach, follow your private path (182 stepping stones) right down to Playa Pan Dulce where you will find a wonderful shaded area and an expansive beach for sunbathing. Our yard is magnificently landscaped and attracts all kinds of wild life. One any given day, you will see possibly four species of monkeys (white face, squirrel, spider, and maybe (if you're lucky) you might even spot a howler. For surfing and fishing and general beach combing, you cannot beat Playa Pan Dulce. The waters are safe for kids and the temperature is absolutely perfect. The entire house and property. I live in Texas, but spend quite a bit of time at our place in Cabo Matapalo, Costa Rica. Chances are, I might be down there to meet you during your stay and if I'm not there, Erick or Teresa (our caretakers) will be there to greet you. If I am there, I will totally give you all the space you want, but will be available for anytime of questions or concerns. I love to interact with my guests, getting to know them and allowing them to get to know me. Obviously, privacy is always respected. I hope to be down there, but Erick and Teresa live on the property and are available to help with any situation. Matapalo is a wonderful "off-grid" community. We all harness the energy of the sun and harvest our own water. Casa Madera receives water from artesian, clay-filtered water wells that has been time-tested and verified as absolutely wonderful to drink. We have been renting for over two decades and things keep getting better and better with every new technological advancement. Matapalo is a "mom and pop" type rental market. There are no large hotels, which keeps the crowds to a minimal. There are three major surf breaks in the area, two are super close (Pan Dulce and Backwash Bay) while Matapalo is short walk away, or you could drive your car down there. There are two waterfalls within walking distance (Rio Carbonera and King Luis). Fishing can be excellent right in the front yard, on Playa Pan Dulce. Ask me about my favorite lures that can be ordered from H&H Lure. The locals are all extremely friendly and the properties are spread out, providing all the privacy and space that you need to have the best trip ever. Depending on how you get to Puerto Jimenez (the closest town to Matapalo), you may already have a rent car. If you fly in or ride on the bus, you can either rent a car in town, take a taxi, or even catch the colectivo (the local means of transportation). You do not NEED a car, but it is a nice luxury. The road out to Matapalo is often bumpy and full of pot holes, so a nice rental car is wonderful. If you can afford a rent car, it provides great peace of mind. The taxi rides are around $50 each way. If you really want to enjoy the local way of getting around, hop on the colectivo which runs twice daily to and from town. I rarely go to town (for numerous reasons) and for that fact, I always totally stock up at the BM (grocery store) before heading out to Matapalo. Rent a high clearance 4 x 4 if you're going to have a car. Coming out to Matapalo, you will cross two rivers without bridges. In the dry season, this is of no consequence, but in the rainy season, you should always use extreme caution when crossing a swollen stream (basically making it a raging river). Be smart! If the wate is up, simply wait it out and cross when you see other vehicles cross safely. The wildlife that you will see from the front porch will rival any trip to Corcovado National Park (almmost). You can go to the park if you wish, but I'm going to suggest you'll see everything you want to see in and around the property. Granted, if you take the time to go to the park and spend a few days there, Corcovado does offer an unbelievable jungle experience. Tours and permits can be arranged in Puerto Jimenez, but understand, there is much to do and see in and around the property. Erick can help you find fun adventures in and around Matapalo.
