Looking for an authentic, unique and off-the-beaten track hostel in Costa Rica’s remote Osa Peninsula? Drake Bay Backpackers is the place. Our non-profit hostel works to support the environmental programs of the Corcovado Foundation and to provide travelers with a genuine Costa Rican experience! Private Cabins- Ensuite Although our hostel is not a “party place” in the least, our two private cabins are great for families or light sleepers! Slightly away from the main common area, and any backpackers coming and going from the dorm at night; these rooms contain a double bed, bunk bed and single loft bed and sleep up to 5 people. They have hot showers, fans, mosquito nets, shelving and a cute little balcony area with a view of the garden. Kitchen Coffee and tea Drinking water Hot showers Lockers (please bring your own padlock) Wi-fi internet Book exchange Lounge with hammocks and sofa Sound system Volleyball court Large garden with BBQ and chill-out areas River and nature trail Bed linen and mosquito nets (except for campers) Located in the tiny village of El Progreso, Drake Bay, 15 minutes drive from the tourist center, we offer all the classic tours available in town such as Corcovado National Park and Isla del Caño, with the addition of real community and ecotourism activities. You can learn how to make empanadas with a local family, watch the sunset from the best vantage point in Drake Bay, participate in environmental education classes with the kids, make coconut oil, milk cows, go fishing for your supper, swim at hidden waterfalls, language swap with the locals and much more. 2) Drake Bay Backpackers was created to support sea turtle conservation, environmental education and sustainable tourism projects in the Osa Peninsula and is owned and operated by the Costa Rican non-profit organization- The Corcovado Foundation. All proceeds from the hostel go towards our environmental programs and we encourage guests to Make a Difference by donating an extra dollar for your stay. We also strive to share the benefits with our community by: employing talented young people; supporting local businesses and families; and offering unique activities and tours right here in our village. Here at the hostel, we seperate our recycling and offer a collection station for wider community use. We treat our grey water with a biogarden system, build from sustainably sourced materials, compost our organic waste, and use all biodegrable cleaning products. You can find out more about our programs by visiting our website. Enjoy a guilt-free vacation in Drake Bay and stay with us! 3) Drake Bay Backpackers opened in 2014 as the first in Drake Bay offering affordable accomodation to backpackers, costa ricans and budget travelers. Since then, we have worked to improve our facilities, activities and services to create a truly remote jungle paradise for our guests. Although we are located 20 minutes walk from the nearest beach, you are almost guaranteed to have it all to yourself, and you won’t find a better vanatage point to watch the sunset in all of Drake Bay! Whether you want to splash out on Corcovado National Park and Isla del Cano; enjoy free hikes; learn about local culture and environment with local guides; particpate in volunteering; or simply hang out in a hammock- our small team will wlecome you to the family and provide you with all the information you need to have the experience you are looking for! Our hostel is different than others you will find in Drake Bay with a large common area, huge self-catering kitchen, hot showers, laundry service, bbq area, and more. Drake Bay Backpackers is located 6kms (15 minutes drive) from the main tourist area of Drake Bay (known as Agujitas). Our village offers a totally different expereince to travelers who want to truly immerse themselves in rural Costa Rican culture and jungle life. In addition to offering all the classic tours that you can get in the main town, we have many other unique community activites available.
