Cortina de Estrellas
A unique glass and steel house in the tropical rainforest coastal mountains of the Southern Pacific Zone. Walls of accordian glass, upscale kitchen, heated infinity pool, and beautiful landscaped area. Peace & Nature. Our home has an unusually open space, a large deck, patio and a heated infinity pool two steps away from the spa. Our view side is built completely from accordion folding tinted, tempered glass doors (with the exception being the bottom half of the shower of the room upstairs). A large living room with a reclining love seat and sofa, flat screen TV, Bose sound, large selection of videos and cd's. The kitchen is chef level, with a massive elemental granite island. The available Master Bedroom is huge, about 350 sq ft, having a proportionatley large bathroom. A two person bathtub is placed within the bedroom, and in addition there is a large walk in closet w dehumidifier. There is a large separated toilet/bidet room with wall mounted toilet and adjacent bidet. The huge shower is along the view side, with the top half of the wall having accordion windows so one can view without obstruction the mountains as they fall away to the sea.....and this view is in complete privacy. The bed includes a California King sized memory foam mattress, overhead fans, A/C and USB plugs. Any extra beds will be a queen sized double high air mattress. There is a 3 meter-wide deck around much of the house, a concrete patio leading to the massage therapy pool, just in front of the spa. Throughout the property is a developing tropical garden and landscaping, with fruit in season and excellent bird watching. A guided tour of the property can be found with the following link. I highly recommend watching it in HD (URL HIDDEN) . Look up cortina de estrellas on youtube. It's about 12:43 long and watch it on HD (UPDATE! as of December 1, 2016 prices go to $109/70) Guests have access to all areas of the house except other bedrooms and the office. Use of the cooking facilities are with permission only. Fridge and Freezer are always accessible for your personal items. The wide deck downstairs is great for Yoga. Wireless Internet is free. Also a washer and dryer are available. Our river is bordering the property and is a short walk away, and we have life vests available for those who want one. One part of the river is a fabulous tropical river "poza", or, swimming hole. Without exaggeration this is an idyllic, primeval setting, with hanging air roots, sheer rock walls from 20-50 ft high (hence the life vests as there are no handholds). The Poza is about 30 ft wide, 70 ft long and 33 ft deep. Above the rock walls is a jungle canopy reaching far up to the sky, creating a green flickering ambiance, you will never forget. It takes some effort to get to, but you will tell your friends about it for years. The intrepid can find the one place where you can climb up, (near the water inlet, a cascading water chute of pure clear water, having carved out it's twisting path from solid rock) and try out the many ledges from which to dive. We should be available to our guests most all of the time. From massage to water massage to answering questions, describing our area, booking or suggesting tours, day trips, points of interest, we can be a great resource for our guests. Also, any meals that we provide can be shared at our large dining table or out on the deck, either on the shaded picnic table or more casually. Our breakfast offerings will be various delicious recipes I have acquired or developed over the years, eg special pancakes, scones, crepes. Coffee will be from Costa Rica, usually from coffee growers i know personally. We will offer dinners too; reasonably priced and memorable. Selections of fruit, sangria and various goodies will almost always be at hand. San Josecito is a close knit community of Ticos and gringos in the foothills up from the Pacific Coast. We work together to make this a safe and accessible area and ecologically healthy. Our river has been evaluated by the Healthy Rivers Project, as to it's environmental health and receives the highest rating in Costa Rica, which is saying quite a lot! Uvita is a small town at the coast and has most any basic item you'd need and much more. There are dentists, doctors, clinics, pharmacies, grocery stores, restaurants, hardware and home furnishing stores.....well, a lot. Also there are many great beaches, ocean tours, diving, white water rafting, waterfalls to explore. Coffee is grown nearby. We are located in Osa canton, so we are part of the biodiversity of the world famous Osa Peninsula. We can give our guests experienced advice, insider tips and realistic expectations for wherever they would like to explore. We are ideally located between popular destinations, a hub from which to explore the more 'natural' side of Costa Rica. Uvita is a major bus stop between Panama and San Jose. Taxis are available but i strongly urge our guests or any visitors to rent a 4WD. This will allow you to explore so much more and especially in the rainy season. Our road has been improved to where you could use a 2WD but it is safer to engage your 4WD on any gravel mountain road. Our parking is adequate but a smaller turning radius 4WD is a good idea, i.e. Daihatsu Terios or Suzuki Jimny. Driving down to our river access path is highly recommended to be a 4WD. Our road off of the main coast highway, the 'costanera', if you are coming from the north, is 15km from the Dominical Bridge, if from the south, is 3km from the Dome restaurant/office park, or 2km from the gas station. From either direction you will see a road sign saying San Josecito. From where you turn, we are 5km up into the mountains, then at the church of San Josecito (a small pueblo including a soccer field, community center, school and church) turn right, then follow that road until you come to the entrance of Cortina de Estrellas (you'll see a painted boulder), at 600 meters. An additional double high, queen sized air mattress is available for extra guests. Massage can be available from therapists with many years, even decades, of experience. I can offer many kinds of massage, as well as a water based massage in our heated pool, you will not find this type of body work in many places around the world, certainly not in an infinity pool, with ocean view, surrounded by rainforest! There is so much to see in Costa Rica, and especially in the Southern Pacific Zone in which we are located. I will humbly offer that even just around our house and the immediate area is enough to satisfy most of the desires you come to a tropical paradise for. Flora, Fauna, a magical river, close up birdwatching, the jaw dropping beauty of even our insects and butterflies. You will be serenaded by birds, frogs, howler monkeys and the rushing sounds of the adjacent river. Spectacular beauty is at hand. A warm comfortable climate is the norm, year around. Calm, Peace, Nature..... that is our environment.
