Oughterson Plantation - The Cottage Villa
The Cottage is suspended amongst the coconut, banana and mango trees. It overlooks the pool to the west with the orchard garden to the south. It has one double bedroom with basin & shower and two cabin style single bedrooms. Open plan kitchen with bar, two balconies large enough to dine on with lounge chairs, and an outdoor shower that is not to be believed! Coconuts, hummingbirds, monkeys, passion fruit, lime, banana and mango trees are an arms-length away. Suited to those wanting a relaxing, romantic or private get-away break, this villa and, for that matter, this area of Barbados is much quieter than the main tourist areas on the South and West coasts, and benefits from an almost constant gentle soothing breeze. The Cottage is especially intimate and relaxed. The open plan dining area, along with the fully fitted kitchen, are steps from the living area and large covered porches which are perfect for al fresco dining and cocktails. The Cottage sits in the shadow of what is reported to be the oldest and largest mango tree on Barbados, dating back to colonial times. You will have a place to park outside of The Cottage. The grounds around the Villa are shared, so you can socialize with the guests staying in the other two villas or you can retreat to your cottage for some downtime. I am always available if you need something. Come by the house or give me a call. There is so much to do. Nearby is Crane Beach, recently granted status by the NYTimes one of the 10 best beaches in the world. Oistins Fish Market and local produce stands will make your meals memorable. And of course your are welcome to hundreds of miles of beaches. The drive up the eastern coast is as spectacular as any Big Sur California or Patagonia drive. Take a boat ride with Peter Milne from the Yacht club or twist his arm to go waterskiing. Diving, snorkeling and cliff jumping are a few other unique nearby adventures. Or don’t do anything adventurous. Sit by the pool and read a book. Take a walk through miles of caning roads in the early morning mist of Barbados. Breath. Converse. Cook. Be warned this is not for the Disney or luxury resort crowd. This is open-to-the-trade-breezes lifestyle as the Bajan’s live. You will not be living ten feet from your suburban neighbor’s back yard. You will not see another condo from your villa. No tour schedule, no concierge tipping, no reservations for dinner and you may have to suffer a frog crossing the doorstep or the resident plantation dogs who wander in at any hour. This is life as you would live if you were to move to Barbados – who knows, after staying at Oughterson Villas, you just might. Car is best, but there is also bus transportation and taxi service available. I live here with my 7 dogs & they will be sure to greet you daily!
