Casa de Teca is located on highly desired First Ridge overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The street facing the ocean consists of six (6) private homes. Each home sits on one - five very private acres. While we are not a gated community, each home is gated for privacy and security. The street is truly a local/international community comprised of locals (Ticos), Europeans and Americans. If you are a walker, you can walk our +kilometer street loop. Don't be surprised if you meet some of your neighbors during your walk. Additionally, you can walk down the hill to one of our favorite haunts, Pancito Cafe, for coffee and great French pastries; on to L’Epicerle, our upscale deli and Stam Cafe for wonderful beer and wine. Just a few more steps west takes you to Ferreteria El Colono, the local hardware store. All these services are less than a kilometer from your casa. The village of Ojochal is made up of Ticos (native Costaricans) and ex-pats from around the world. Some of the earliest ex-pats to arrive were French Canadian, so there is a strong French cultural flavor to the community. If you are into food and dining, we have two wonderful French bakeries and a collection of nationally known restaurants offering international fare. Some of our favorites include Exotica, Citrus, located in the Plaza Tangara, and Pancito Cafe, each offering fine cuisine. For sunsets, just stay home, or head over the the El Castillo hotel for a cocktail and unique sunset viewing. Ojochal is known for the village’s community initiatives supported by Ticos and ex-pats alike. We proudly fly the coveted blue flag, awarded for community environmental initiatives. If your the type who wants to hunker down, stay put and let the world come to you, that's fine. But, it you want to explore the area, hit a major shopping area or go to the supermarket, Costa Rica offers very good bus transportation on a highway #34 route that can take you from Panama to San Jose and points in between. The fares are inexpensive and the buses, although usually not air conditioned, are comfortable. So, take the bus at the stop at the entrance to Ojochal, go to Uvita for shopping or San Isidro for sightseeing. An express bus goes directly to the Juan Santamaria international airport in San Jose. It's a tremendous value. Local taxis and shuttles are also available and are generally inexpensive. We strongly recommend a car if you are staying two weeks or more. Further, we recommend 4 wheel drive for ease of traveling off the highway. Highway #34 is a beautifully paved highway. Most roads off the highway are rock-based clay roads. They can be rough and challenging and fun any time you head up the mountain. Watch out for the quads, though. Quads rule! Renting an owner home is is a bit different from renting a motel/hotel room. Every home has it's quirks and idiosyncrasies. Casa de Teca is no different. Once you have reserved space we will email you a welcome package that includes information about making this house work for Casa de Teca is located on a hill approximately 300 feet above sea level.
