The Little Red Schoolhouse is a unique cabin along the road on Corkum's Island. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, you will be amazed by the beautiful sunrises and sunsets and the brightness of the stars at night. The re-done schoolhouse has a charming, cozy interior and great outdoor space for you to enjoy. There are many beaches in the area to spend your days at before coming back for a barbecue or a nice night out in Lunenburg at any of the amazing restaurants the town has to offer. The Little Red Schoolhouse is over 100 years old and has been with the current owners for over 30 years. It is a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, kitchen, and living room cottage located just a stone's throw from the Atlantic ocean. The kitchen is fully equipped with a new convection oven and hot plate and there is a new barbecue on the deck. The schoolhouse is not insulated, during the summer months, the cottage is the perfect temperature with the ocean breeze coming through the screened windows. Should there be a colder night (since we are in Nova Scotia) there is a wood stove and firewood/ kindling provided. This is a non-smoking property, we ask that you only smoke outside and put cigarette butts in a provided ashtray. We are located in Lunenburg if there is anything you need don't hesitate to contact us. Corkum's island is a quiet community that is just a ten-minute drive from the town of Lunenburg and is connected to the mainland by a causeway. We ask that you keep to the speed limit on this road as there are many deer on the island and many people walking the side of the road with their dogs and children. The island's friendly locals love to take walks along the oceanside road and give a smile and wave as they walk by. The peacefulness of Corkum's Island is something everyone treasures, so we ask not to have big parties or play loud music until the wee hours of the morning. Lunenburg is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has been an active fishing town for many years. There is a great culinary scene with lots of great options for restaurants. The many activities are what draw people to Lunenburg. There is the Bluenose Golf Course, a swimming pool and tennis courts. There is a bike rental in town and a beautiful trail to bike or hike to Mahone Bay or Blue Rocks. Blue Rocks offers kayak rental if you'd like to explore the coast by water. There is a two-car driveway on the property for you to use. Lunenburg is a ten-minute drive away and there are many taxi services around that can take you to and from Corkums Island to town if you require.
