We can help with your itinerary for the area including events and ideal travel routes to make your stay more enjoyable. This unique neighborhood is a nature enthusiasts dream. The Spring Garden Place backs onto conservation area. The City of Windsor announced a new program in December 1999 to acquire the private holdings in the 117 hectare (289 acre) Spring Garden Natural Area. The federal Habitat Stewardship Program has provided funding to assist the city with the acquisition program. In addition to being designated part of the Ojibway Prairie Remnants Area of Natural and Scientific Interest (ANSI) by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, this site carries the designation of Environmentally Significant Area (ESA) by the Essex Region Conservation Authority. Many rare, threatened and endangered species of plants and animals inhabit Spring Garden such as Purple Twayblade Orchid, American Chestnut, Colic-root, Dense Blazing Star, Wild Indigo Duskywing butterfly, Duke's Skipper, Red-headed Woodpecker and Grey Fox. Spring Garden features oak savanna and woodland, dry prairie, buttonbush swamp and a wetland in the form of an old lagoon. Formerly the area was much more open but trees have invaded many sites which surrounds the neighborhood and most likely you will encounter deer as well as wild turkey whom are frequent visitors to the backyard. Having access to two separate bike trails cyclists need not travel far to enjoy their favorite past time. Don't feel like cooking .....Just a 2 min walk down the street on the corner of Malden Rd and Spring Garden you will find the Springwell Pub and Smoke House with a menu that caters to all dietary needs. The Spring Garden Place is centrally located allowing easy access to 401 and EC Row Expressway making travelling in Essex County a breeze. Situated in close proximity to the largest International land boarder crossing in North America
