BREEZE Treehouse, is located at The Appleton Retreat on 120 acres of private land, bordered by 1,300 acres of a protected nature conservancy. To the south is the Pettengill Stream a resource protected area and to the north a large secluded pond. BREEZE guests may reserve the wood fired cedar hot tub and the sauna, at an additional charge, which are close by and private. The Appleton Retreat is less than a 30 minute drive to Belfast, Rockport, Camden and Rockland, charming downeast seaside towns. Total privacy, alone in a tree, the ultimate getaway. The 1st floor of BREEZE is over 20' high and the sleeping loft is approximately 40' off the ground. To gain access to BREEZE requires climbing three flights of stairs. Two are very easy and code compliant, the 3rd is a ships ladder - most dogs will need a lot of coaching or need to be carried up. The sleeping loft is also accessed by a steep set of stairs. BREEZE is NOT a great place for young children. You will experience the uniqueness of being in a tree! Windowed walls overlook the treetops and a glimpse of the ridge to the south. There is a large deck for hanging out.... (CAUTION: In winds over 25 mph you may experience some movement and noise - not to worry!) Although BREEZE appears to be a rustic structure, it has many amenities including: Air Conditioning, a full galley kitchen; a shower and traditional toilet, as well as good old electricity........ so you will not be roughing it. Although there is not wi-fi at BREEZE you may tap into the wi-fi at Braeburn by getting in that proximity. There is private parking at the treehouse. You won’t see much of Peter & Toby but we are around if you need anything or have a question just message us through the Airbnb portal. The local towns of Hope, Union, Liberty and Lincolnville are like taking a step back to the past. They are truly quaint with their little general stores and blink of the eye town centers. Of course you don't want to miss a visit to coastal Maine and the bigger towns of Belfast, Rockport, Camden and Rockland, with their rugged coastline and schooners plying the waters. Breathtaking. You will definitely need a vehicle - as you would have to wait a long time for Uber. Traveling on the scenic hilly backroads is the best way to get around. Or, just forget going anywhere and enjoy the trails on and nearby The Appleton Retreat, Winter, Fall, Spring and Summer. PLEASE BEWARE: If you are planning on bringing your dog, plan on carrying him up and down a steep stair to gain final access, and also to the sleeping loft, should your loyal companion be so fortunate. The pond.... OR IS IT A LAKE? There is a trail starting at Braeburn leading to Newbert Pond. It is approximately a 30 minute walk through a well defined forested trail on Nature Conservancy's 1,300 acre reserve. Inquire about paddle boards...... To the East is the Pettengill Stream which The Appleton Retreat property borders. It is a huge 40 mile aquifer. The stream, albeit not very wide is navigable by kayak, which we provide. (In the draught of 2020 it was NOT navigable in the summer months.) In wintertime cross country skiing is great.
