Our cottages, overlooking spectacular Flagg's Cove, are a perfect location for exploring all that Grand Manan has to offer! Our cottages have a fully functional kitchen to prepare your own meals. You can enjoy them on the furnished deck if the spirit moves you! Both bedrooms have memory foam mattresses, and the bathroom is equipped with a new shower. Towels, bedding and soap are provided; everything you need for a comfortable stay! We might just turn you into a Grand Mananer! The whole cottage is yours! I can be reached by email or text any time if you have questions or advice about island activities! Moonlight Bay Cottage are smack dab between the villages of North Head and Castalia overlooking Flagg's Cove. Incredible sunrises, and the moon travelling across the cove is spectacular! Grand Manan Island can be explored by car or bicycle. There's plenty of room for two cars at the cottages. Grand Manan is 34 kilometres (21 miles) long and 18 kilometres (11 miles) wide- just for the record! The ferry (we call it 'the boat') lands in North Head. You'll sail by our iconic Swallow Tail Lighthouse just before you land and once you arrive, it's an easy (depending on your fitness level) bike ride or car ride (if your fitness level's something like mine!) from the cottage so that you can really explore the lighthouse as well as the Whale Research Center. The Hole in the Wall, which is an amazing hike to a natural rock wall with a giant hole in it and 'the Whistle' where you can see spectacular sunsets are also in North Head! The island's hospital is also in North Head, but hopefully you won't need their services! Heading down the island, North Head is up the island and everything else is down, you follow the main road, parallel to the ocean and just outside the cottage, and hit the next village, Castalia. Castalia has a convenience store where you can purchase necessities as well as wine, beer and any other alcoholic libations that strike your fancy. You can also take a right by the convenience store where you'll find the Art Gallery, which is open all summer, and if you continue you'll come to sign for Dark Harbour which will take you the back of the island where Grand Manan's world famous dulse is harvested. If you've never had dulse, you're in for a treat! It's a sea vegetable that's picked only at specific time and tides and then dried in the sun! We snack on it like chips, and can't get enough of it, but you can also cook with it. Be adventurous! If you don't take the detour to the Art Gallery and continue on the main road by the ocean, the next village is Woodward's Cove. When the tide's down in Woodward's Cove all you can see are mudflats, however when the tide's up, 'The Cove' is beautiful. It seems we can thank the Bay of Fundy for the highest tides in the world! In Woodward's Cove, you can take a side trip to Ross' Island when the tide is down, but you have to time your visit so that you can make it back before it creeps back up. There's also the Independent Grocery in Woodward's Cove (the island's largest food store) and the only gas station. The next village is Grand Harbour! It's a bustling spot with a Dollar Store, the Library, the museum (which is really fascinating if you like history- particularly Grand Manan's) the school, where we host community events and Home Hardware and Home Furniture! There's also the RCMP. Again, hopefully you won't need their services! But if you can't find what you're looking for in Grand Harbour, you probably don't need it! You can take a left at Grand Harbour and head to Ingall's Head where you can catch the Whitehead Ferry. Whitehead is our small neighbour but it boasts beautiful pebble beaches and abundant bird life for those interested. It may not have washroom facilities, so plan accordingly. If you continue down the island without making the Ingall's Head turn, you're heading toward Seal Cove where you'll find old smoke sheds revamped into cottages and in credibly beautiful long sand beach where you can beach comb or hunt for sea glass. However, about halfway between Grand Harbour and Seal Cove, you'll find the Anchorage Provincial Park on the left. It has a long sand beach, camping sites and sometimes hosts the Rotary Club's Chicken BBQ, which really shouldn't be missed! Further down the island after Seal Cove (we're coming to the end now) you'll come to Deep Cove, a small spectacular sand beach, where you can count on crashing waves and icy water if you'd care for a dip! Nobody ever said the Bay of Funday was balmy. And just a little bit further we come to Southern Head, with its iconic rugged cliffs and incredible sunsets. OK! You've now reached the end, and can head back! Let's talk food. In North Head, you can choose from Post Office Pizza or if you're in the mood for fine dining, the Inn at Whale Cove serves dinner every night and reservations are required. (Website hidden by Airbnb) North Head also has an incredible French Bakery where you can pick up bread or the fixin's for a picnic. If a seafood fry up appeals, head for Sunrise Seafood Takeout in Woodward's Cove. It's open from June til the end of September and you can also purchase fresh fish there to take home to cottage to cook or bbq! Heading back down the island, you'll find The Harbour Grille in Grand Harbour. If you're feeling like Grand Manan fish chowder or a home cooked Sunday dinner, Harbour Grille is the place to be. Newtons, an old mercantile has recently been revamped into a cafe and if you're hankering for an espresso and an artisan sandwich, you'll find it here. There's also various venues for afternoon tea all over the island. Now that we've covered grub, there's mile and miles of hiking paths on the island. (Website hidden by Airbnb) You can also purchase a trail book from the museum or the Whale Research Center. If you're weekending on the island, Grand Manan has many churches and all of them will welcome you warmly, should you like to attend! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to text or email me, and I'll be happy to help.
