Want to go fishing in Odell Lake? It's only 38 miles away. Located in Westfir (population 258) and 5 miles from Oakridge with full grocery store, gas stations and many restaurants. We can see the famous Alpine mountain bike Trail from the cottage. Bring your own bike or rent one in Oakridge. Our cottage is the place to stay when you want privacy a great river view. Recycling/Septic- We are on a septic so please nothing but waste and tp. Westfir has limited curbside recycling- we encourage you to take your recyclables home if possible. Thank you :) Garbage day is Thursday. Train/road noise? The Westfir/Oakridge area is on the main line of a major railroad. The City of Westfir is within a "no whistle zone" so train noise is limited- however you will still hear the train, especially the heavy freight trains going uphill. We are on the main road through town and there can be some traffic noise from time to time. Is the cottage a place for guests with young children? Due to proximity to road and river guests with young children should be advised to be extra vigilant. The path to river is hilly and graveled. Those with mobility issues will need to take extra care. Please contact us with questions. The house is yours to enjoy with a washing machine, fully functional kitchen, towels and linens and cozy furniture. Oakridge is a larger town a few minutes by car away, with more stores and restaurants and amenities. You will have the place to yourselves, we will be just an email or phone call away. As a private Owner, we offer unique dates in a unique property and highly recommend contracting “cancel for any reason” travel insurance, that covers all medical including COVID, lodging damages, cancellations and relocations, and all travel related reservations and expenses, as insured risks. All reservations after March 2020 are made knowing the uncertainty of the health and travel industries, governmental regulations, local closures and restrictions, on top of the usual weather or other events. More than ever, we strongly urge each Guest to purchase “cancel for any reason” travel insurance. The Neighborhood: The Cottage is in Westfir a tiny logging town of almost 300 surrounded by beautiful National Forest. The office covered bridge- the longest covered bridge in Oregon- is located here. The north fork of the middle fork of the Willamette river is designated “Wild and Scenic” just past the bridge. The Aufderheide scenic byway starts here too. What to do? All sorts of two wheel fun-mountain, road and motor biking. The famous Alpine mountain bike trail overlooks the cottage. Huckleberry flats OHV area has over 30 miles of trails for both motorcycles and ATVs. You can also enjoy hiking, boating, birding, hunting, fishing and kayaking. Visit Oakridge a short 4 miles where you can have a great micro brew in the trendy uptown area. Rent a bicycle or dine on pizza, burgers and some of the best Chinese food in the state(Lee's) -and don't forget the deli at Ray's food place for something tasty to go. Take a drive to McCredie Hot Springs and Salt Creek Falls they are just up the hill on Highway 58. Bring or rent a kayak and drive to Waldo Lake to see the clear blue water. Fly fishing is open year around with best fishing in May/June and September according to local and blog sources. Just internet search- North Fork of the Middle Fork of the Willamette River- for more information. "Fishing regulations for the North Fork are as follows: Any angler over the age of 12 is required to possess a current angling license. The North Fork is open year round to fly fishing with a barbless hook only. Reels and barbed hooks are illegal. Daily catch is limited to 2 wild trout that are a minimum of 8 inches long. Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has detailed information and regulations at or call. Please remember to keep our rivers clean and safe. Remove any trash, glass etc. to keep the area safe for swimmers and fish alike. Do not allow your children to be near the river without supervision and proper safety equipment. Please keep in mind that the river runs through residential areas and voices do carry.(from the City of Westfir newsletter)" Getting Around Diamond Express a part of Lane Transit Service has a stop less than 2 miles away. This bus also includes a front mounted bicycle rack that holds three bikes. At the driver's discretion, additional bicycles can be placed on board. Sometimes the back-up vehicle must make the run. It is smaller and can only carry two bikes and fewer people. Sorry no pets/animals, smoking, fires, candles, RV or tent camping. We added a family room with a view of the river and a wonderful new bathroom with a custom tile shower. The new windows put you eye level with the Osprey and Eagles that fish on the river. The master bedroom was gutted, rebuilt and expanded to allow enough space for a new KING bed, the kitchen was opened up and new granite tile countertops installed. We just added a Acurite personal weather station that is shared online (WU) (KORWESTF13). Photos of the remodel are on the Westfir River Cottage’s FB page. Local businesses include a Dollar General store that's open in Oakridge on Highway 58. Rays supermarket is still the best full service grocery store with an excellent deli department. The local bike shop, Willamette Mountain Mercantile, is a great resource to help with planning and supplies. Deep Woods Distillery is now open for tastings- it's located on 1st street in the uptown area, open Fri-Sun. Also in Uptown- the brew pub has new owners and renamed-The 3 legged Crane Pub and Brew-house -has wonderful outdoor seating and fantastic food. Rim Nam Thai Cafe on 58 in Oakridge is good and caters to special diets. The Lion Mountain Bakery is a great local restaurant to grab breakfast and coffee open till 1:00 and now serving a Friday night dinner too. Find them all on FB in the pages liked by the Westfir River Cottage. Our WiFi has recently been upgraded and is working really well. The password is posted on the refrigerator. Fly fishing is open year around with best fishing in June and September according to local and blog sources. Search- North Fork of the Middle Fork of the Willamette River- for more information. Our area is all about the outdoors and all sorts of two wheel fun-mountain, road and motor biking. The famous Alpine mountain bike trail overlooks the cottage- bring your own bike or rent one in Oakridge. Huckleberry flats OHV area has over 30 miles of trails for both motorcycles and ATV s. FAQ last year was about swimming in the river- The river is very clear and beautiful and there are swimming holes nearby. There is a nice hole just down river. It's fairly easy to walk along the bank. I highly recommend river shoes to protect your feet as there are sharp rocks. The river is great for wading right in front of the cottage. My grandparents always made me wear a life jacket. It may be a little cool depending on the weather. There is also a list of "local" swimming spots in the guest book in the cottage.
