Only a two-minute walk from its famous cousin Pelourinho, the neighbourhood of Santo Antônio retains all the same qualities (history, culture, architecture) and none of the issues of a touristy area (overpriced and overcrowded). Instead of souvenir shops, here you'll find gorgeous cafés, galleries, century-old plazas, tranquility, and a lively bohemian community untainted by predatory tourism. Our house is a lot like our neighbourhood — a hidden little treat wholly unfit for the hasty tourist. If the photos don't speak for themselves, we can just tell you that a lot of love and time went into designing this little house of ours. There are records for listening, books for reading, weird art for tripping out, and a beautiful little backyard with a secret shower. I only make the place available on Airbnb whenever I'm doing some traveling of our own. Please make sure to expand the Amenities section to see what's included; you'll find we have no TV set, for example. This is a historic house, so will never feel squeaky clean like a hotel, no matter how well cleaned it is. I have tried countless times to paint the cast iron bathtub, but the paint always ends up peeling rather quickly, no matter what type of paint we use. We apologize that it looks the way it does. I also like to have an open breeze, so I always leave the garden doors and windows open, which might mean the odd bug or cute gecko might wander in. Nothing is off limits. Backyard, bicycles, books, records, foods and spices — it's all yours to enjoy during your stay. But please leave things as you found them. You can read the House Manual for detailed use of the premises. Whenever I'm in town and I rent out my place, I stay at a guesthouse just across the street from home. This way I can make sure to always be 30 seconds away in case you need anything. I'm also always down to show you around my favourite spots in the neighbourhood! Santo Antônio is Pelourinho's quieter, cuter, and lesser-known cousin. A colonial area dotted with excellent restaurants, cafés and antique shops overlooking All Saints Bay. Santo Antônio has so much to offer that we rarely ever feel like visiting other parts of town. I compiled all things worth seeing and doing in the neighbourhood into a handy guidebook you can acess through you reservation confirmation. Check it out, plan your day and enjoy! There is free street parking, but you will likely want to explore the Historic Centre on foot. Bus stops are a ten-minute walk away. After dark we recommend taking a ride share when leaving the Old Town. Many taxi drivers are known to choose longer routes, which is why we prefer ridesharing apps such as Uber or 99. If you could water our plants during your stay, both myself and the plants would greatly appreciate it. Once every two days does the trick! :)
