Adjacent to the unit's entrance: a private patio surrounded by greenery. There is WiFi throughout the unit. A wall with a sliding pocket door separates the suite from the rest of the house ensures guests' privacy. The hosts provide foods for a healthy continental breakfast when guests arrive --fruit, yogurt, bread, coffee, etc. The unit is completely private. The laundry room is shared with the family. To enter the apartment, guests go down a well lit path on the side of the house to the back entrance which is down four steps. Just punch in a code to enter the unit. Adjacent to the entrance is a pretty back patio surrounded by greenery. Guests are welcome to use the washer and dryer located in the' laundry room located just steps away. Usually either Michaele (pronounced Michael, but she is a woman) or John is home to greet guests, help them get settled and to answer their questions. Both are happy to answer questions about where to go/what to do/what and where to eat. When not home, they respond to texts and emails promptly. Ours is a pretty, heavily treed, Mid-century modern neighborhood of relatively small houses in the town of Chevy Chase. (We are located a mile and a half from downtown Bethesda two miles from Silver Spring and a mile and a half from the District Line.) Chevy Chase straddles the line between Maryland and The District of Columbia. We are located on the Maryland side, but the neighborhood is oriented towards the city -- you can zip downtown by car in 20 minutes in non-rush hour. To get to downtown Bethesda, which is a mile and a half from our house, or to Silver Spring, two a miles from our house, you can take Uber or you can take-the-bus: buses to Bethesda and Silver Spring run along nearby East/West highway. (Bus schedules are in the visitor packet.) Both Bethesda and Silver Spring are on the Red Line. As to driving, the drive to Bethesda and Silver Spring are easy. Public parking in both locations is available and relatively inexpensive. (Public parking in the District of Columbia costs more.) Driving into the District of Columbia is easy--we are located near Connecticut Avenue and Beach Drive, two of the main access roads into the city. If you need more detailed information about transportation, please feel free to contact us. The house is located half a mile from Rock Creek Park. The hosts consider their proximity to the park, which extends more than twenty miles from the tip of DC into Maryland to be one of their house's nicest features. The park has bike paths (two bikes are available to borrow), running paths, hiking trails (ask John and Michaele where to hike), horseback riding trails, picnic spots, tennis courts and soccer fields. (The information pack in the bedroom contains a map of Rock Creek Park with (some) nearby trails identified.) Also, the hosts provide all the fixings for a tasty and healthy continental breakfast when guests arrive. (After that, guests are. on their own.). (Anything that's missing, just ask) In return we ask our guests to keep the eating area clean. (Our house is happily ant and rodent free.) Cups and other utensils can be washed in the laundry room sink --the laundry area is stocked with dishwashing liquid and dishtowels. We provide china cups, paper plates and plastic utensils. If you prefer real dishes and silver, just ask and we will happily provide.
