Summary: Spruce Cabin @ Keystone Retreat is an adorable nicely appointed tiny house located on the world famous Kenai River. This cabin is a part of our family legacy home site and has been professionally designed and built to exclusively enjoy the amazing beauty year round along with world-renowned fishing. For larger groups, we have 4 units available on property and an additional 2 units across the street. The Kenai River is the most popular sport fishing destination in Alaska. Each year there are two runs each of king salmon, coho salmon, sockeye salmon, plus a run of pink salmon every other year. The world record king salmon, which weighed about 44 kg (97 lb), was caught in the Kenai River in 1985. The Kenai is also the home of trophy size rainbow trout and Dolly Varden. Occasionally there will be reports of catching of "Steelhead"(Sea-run Trout). In recent years, the king salmon fishery has been closed or heavily restricted due to low returns of fish. The Coho salmon runs occur in early August and early October. The September run is favored by local anglers due to the larger size of the silver salmon. The sockeye salmon runs are in late-June and mid-July-August. Sockeyes are considered the premier salmon for eating, canning, and smoking. Property amenities include: Boat launch nearby Access to private dock for relaxing and fishing. Commercial fish packer Freezers Ice Card operated laundry facility The Space: The Spruce is a beautifully organized tiny home that comes complete with heated floors in a european-style shower and toilet area. The on demand hot water heater means you never run out of water, and kitchenette has a gas stove, microwave and cooking utensils for your use. The loft sleeping area has a Queen size bed with premium mattress and the sofa on the main floor is a single hide-a-bed. A Smart Tv is available with access to free movies and news as well you can login using your Netflix or other On-demand services for viewing your favorite programs. Guest Access: There is free parking onsite as well as additional parking area across the street for guests or boat trailers. You will receive a unique code for logging into the keypad on your unit when you register. This code gives you access to the laundry, ice and fish packaging equipment located in separate building on the property. The Neighborhood: This cabin is a part of our larger family owned legacy property, we have personally owned and developed this property over the past 20 years. There is a newly upgraded boat landing up river approximately 100 yards along with two public river accesses on Keystone Drive that are within walking distance and complete with walk ways and fish cleaning tables. The city of Soldotna is just 5 miles up the road which includes a Fred Meyer store along with many other services both for the sportsman and general shopping supplies. Getting Around: While we presume you'll be driving to our destination there are all means of commercial transportation including a commercial airport in Kenai 25 miles away. The best part is there are several airplane operators that can bring you to more remote settings for bear watching, fishing, and site seeing. Other Things to Note: Our Accommodations are located on the Kenai Peninsula located just south of Anchorage, nothing about the Kenai is formal or stuffy. In fact, no other destination offers such an up close and personal Alaskan experience. That’s why we are known as Alaska’s Playground. For more information: https://kenaipeninsula.org/ A couple of our Favorites: Homer, Alaska - is a quick drive to this town on stunning Kachemak Bay. Homer is at the end of the Sterling Highway, 61 miles south of our location surrounded by wilderness and ocean. Known as the Halibut Fishing Capital of the World and the City of Peonies. Homer's museums, art galleries, fine dining and seaside accommodations, all help create Alaska-sized memories to last a lifetime. This unique combination of location, commerce, beauty, and wilderness makes Homer a wonderful place to visit and can easily enjoyed as a day trip while staying with us. Cooper Landing, also commonly referred to as The Landing, is on the Kenai Peninsula, about 38 miles north of our location, at the confluence of Kenai Lake and the Upper Kenai River. The town straddles the Sterling Highway at the north end of Kenai Lake, and although it has only 357 residents, in the summer it swells with anglers, rafters, hikers and bikers enjoying all the beauty that the surrounding mountains offer. During the summer months bears can be viewed clearly from the roadway fishing alongside the same riverbanks as the human anglers.
