Our home is your perfect Gulf Island getaway. Modern yet cozy, our space is well appointed with large open living, water views and a hot tub. We'd be delighted to answer any questions, comments and requests. Everything you need for a relaxed stay is here. Enjoy views of the water from the expansive deck. Or curl up next to a wood stove fire while watching the rain. The backyard is south facing with a patio table and chairs, a large umbrella, barbecue and hot tub. Our front deck has strung lighting with Adirondack chairs and a gas fire pit for your use. The house easily accommodates four adults (two bedrooms with king and queen beds) with a possibility with a blow up queen mattress in the loft area. The home is an easy ferry from Vancouver or Victoria and a 20 walk from the Village Bay terminal on Mayne Island. The property is not suited to children however due to the loft space and deck. The kitchen is well stocked (we love to cook) and equipped with a full-size range, oven and fridge. ** please note that the space is our retreat too, and as such, household items, personal effects and food will be present in the house. Space will be made for your groceries and belongings. During your Mayne Island retreat, you will enjoy full access to all areas of the house, including the loft area, the back yard and wrap-around deck. Please know that during your stay in our home, we shall not be available in person. We're easily reachable by phone and email. Mayne Island is a peaceful place nestled in the Southern Gulf Islands. The location of our home is conveniently located a short 20 minute walk from the ferry terminal on Mariners Point. It's easy to walk (~50 mins), bike, drive or hitch-hike to the amenities in Miners Bay. The Japanese gardens at Dinner Bay are a favourite of ours for sunsets, picnics, playground and Frisbee golf. It's a 25 min walk away. Walking, biking and driving are your best options during the pandemic. Few drivers will stop for hitchhikers and the Community Bus is running. It is currently meeting passengers on the afternoon and evening ferries. Hitching a Ride: You are welcome to use the 25 Mayne Island Car Stops. This is free, voluntary, alternative transportation that is environmentally and community-friendly. Please note that hitch hiking is not currently happening due to the pandemic. Car Stops signs are green and white road signs located at pullouts all around Mayne. They indicate the locations where drivers may expect to see passengers seeking a ride. They are two-way stops, so if you're standing there, indicate with your hand which way you're heading, and if you cross the street, be careful. Community Bus: The bus operates year round meeting the incoming ferries from Tsawwassen on Thursdays and Fridays, mid-day through the evening, plus Saturday mornings. With enough notice they may also be able to meet other ferries on request. If there is more than one passenger, they may also may be able to pick up anywhere on the island to deliver you to the ferry terminal or points in between. Further information regarding this service please visit the Mayne Island Chamber website. Before booking your Mayne Island retreat, please ensure you have booked your BC Ferry reservation. This is due to the limited capacity of the vessels that service the Southern Gulf Islands, especially during peak summer months and long weekends. If you find yourself travelling without a reservation, sailing waits can occur during peak travel times. Travelling at less busy times will help you avoid waits. Taking your car onto the ferry maybe booked online on the BC Ferry website. If you are traveling by foot, you will need to make your reservation via the BC Ferry reservation telephone line. Water conservation is a critical part of your stay on Mayne. Resources are limited and every effort to save water helps. No outdoor watering is permitted in the summer (washing, lawns, etc.), we encourage short showers, low laundry and not running taps.
