A short island hop from Provo to Salt Cay will bring you to this tiny quaint, quiet, and very welcoming community. "Salt Cay Beach House South" is a charming 2 story cottage located on historic Salt Cay's central west sunset shore, just steps away from a sandy beach. the lower level has a full kitchen, dining area, generous seating area and half bath. The 2nd story deck provides incredible sunset views, whale watching during the Humpback season, and a perfect spot for morning coffee or an evening cocktail. The 2nd floor bedroom has a king bed with an expansive ocean view from your pillow. In addition to ceiling fans, the 2nd story provides great breezes to gently cool you as you sleep. Fall asleep to the soothing sounds of the sea. From its location on the narrow end of the island, you can watch the sun rise over the salinas, watch the sun set over the ocean, or star-gaze the incredible night skies without leaving the property. Walking or riding bikes is the normal mode of transportation. Rentals of golf carts can be arranged and due to the "first come, first serve" policies, advance booking is HIGHLY recommended. We can help set this up for you. Rental fees average $80 per day, with some breaks for full week rentals. CASH PAYMENT FOR GOLF CARTS.. The island boasts great swimming, including the fabulous North Beach and the island ocean "pool", snorkeling, scuba diving (full service dive shop with dive boats, rental gear and certification plans), and whale watching from shore or with one of several available boat operators. In-water encounters with the humpbacks are not guaranteed but do occur on a regular basis curing Humpback season. You can also find kayak rentals, boat trips to outer uninhabited islands, bone fishing, conch diving, and/or a trip to a local sting-ray snorkeling experience. There is great bird watching on island with many varieties staying for the winter or living on island full time. The triangular island has many different ecosystems, all very unique in their own way. With less than 75 year-round residents, a similar amount of high-season expats and limited small accommodations for visitors, Salt Cay remains quaint and friendly. It won't take long for you to be adopted into the local community. The local boat travels to Grand Turk 3 times a week (weather permitting), so that you can visit the historic capitol island if you choose. Local friendly feral donkeys (descendants of those left behind at the end of the salt industry era), cows, chickens, and feral cats roam the island and many tourists find them to be a surprising and amusing addition to their SC experience. Salt Cay is definitely a step back in time and is known as the "Island that time Forgot". There are only small, very basic convenience stores (think 1940's), at present 4 small friendly restaurants, featuring both local fare and American cuisine. There are no big grocery stores, shopping malls, movie theaters, casinos or night clubs . The local churches welcome all visitors to their services. The island dress code is casual. Although left behind in many ways, the island has high-speed internet and cellular phone service. The cottage has wi-fi internet service. ** With advance planning, the cottage kitchen can be stocked ahead of your arrival, including beer and alcohol. If you prefer, you can bring in food from either home or the other islands. Most airlines have no issue with coolers of food, both frozen and fresh, providing that there is neither dry ice nor wet ice. Gel packs will get through providing that they are frozen at the point of departure. Depending on the length of your stay, maid service will be arranged to suit your needs during your stay. Daily maid service can be arranged for a fee if you so choose. Nightly rate includes the 12% government tax, but does not include the $55 departure cleaning fee.
