KEYLESS SELF CHECK-IN, EASY TO MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING This is a Frank Lloyd Wright style 3-story, mid-century home built into a hillside (a signature FLW feature). We live in the main house, so you will have all the privacy you desire but also immediate and friendly assistance if needed. We take impeccable care of our property and have created a guest space that is truly a peaceful and elegant retreat. Nothing about the apartment is second rate (no "leftover" furniture that we just tossed down in the Airbnb space). Every furnishing and amenity was appointed with care. Quality matters to us, as does a sense of aesthetics. So many of the kitchens (for example) on Airbnb listings for guest suites are dinky galley kitchens or kitchenettes with mismatched dishes/cutlery and second rate appliances, but the kitchen in our guest suite is the real deal. It offers ample (granite) counter space and cupboards with lighting, high quality appliances and Italian chef grade cookware, and a huge island with counter stools. In short, it's a gorgeous kitchen. The bedroom boasts a vintage wrought iron bed with bamboo modal sheets, German "alternative" goose down comforter, tempurpedic (and other) pillows and a superior quality mattress with 2-inch memory foam/gel infused mattress topper; custom black-out curtains; a French linen divan; and a large custom cedar closet. The sofa and ottoman in the living room are custom made to complement the vintage Turkish toile chair. The chairs at the glass-top table in the living room are bonded leather. The list goes on, but you get the idea. The internet access is secure, fire-walled and high speed (at 100Mbps). Coffee making options include a Keurig Elite; French Press; and Pour-Over. This space is priced for the quality it delivers. It's not a place to crash; it's a sanctuary. We have priced our rate competitively, and for the more discriminating Airbnb guest. We don't seek a high volume of guests rotating in and out of the guest suite, but a select few who will appreciate and take care of it properly. We ask and expect our guests to observe a simple principle: "Leave It Better Than You Found It." This is a fully furnished and equipped guest suite with private entrance and keyless entry. We share no common areas or amenities with you. You need not have any interaction with anyone else (for Covid or just plain privacy concerns), though if you happen to be outside at the same time as our dog, be prepared for a Labrador greeting. PLEASE READ THIS, AND OUR "PLAY NICE" EXPECTATION EXPLAINED BELOW: We are very much available and happy to help with advice and information. For business travelers: if you prefer to never see us, that's fine too - you can check yourself in, do your thing, and leave at the appointed time. But know that we area available just upstairs in the main house or via messaging. We are always timely with responses (though we don't keep late hours). We exert considerable efforts to ensure a comfortable stay for our guests and adopt a Horst Schulze Ritz ( (Hidden by Airbnb) it) approach to Airbnb hosting. Should you need something reasonable, which is not otherwise provided in the guest suite and/or something is not operating as expected, please get in touch with us during your stay so that we can address it (rather than saying nothing about it and then grumbling later in your Airbnb review. We are happy to accommodate reasonable requests (emphasis on reasonable) that are within our control. We all know those people in life (though they rarely seem to know themselves) who are never satisfied and always seem to find a reason to gripe - the eggshell personality who will complain about the normal noise of water running through the pipes upstairs, or demand a refund at the Ritz Carleton because the chocolate left on the pillow wasn't centered. We will be direct: your satisfaction is NOT guaranteed. Why? Because we can only control ourselves; you are the only one who can control your own attitude. We are healthy, vibrant, happy people who treat others with graciousness and integrity. PLEASE PLAY NICE, as we do. If you can't agree to that, and you are someone who allows Perfection to be the enemy of Mere Exellence, it's probably best you move on to the next listing. Please note that we usually go to bed at 9:30 pm but are usually awake by 7:00. If you send us a request or question between 9:30 pm and 7 am, it is unlikely we will respond right away, but we do check messages first thing in the morning We are 5 minutes from he quaint downtown Pleasant Hill; and 7 minutes from hip and stylish Walnut Creek or Lafayette (with outstanding culinary offerings). We offer the convenience of enjoying the advantages of several downtown areas, easy and quick access to transit and freeways, along with seclusive retreat so that you are not in the thick of all the activity; a mere 25 miles from downtown San Francisco, you can also enjoy the city where Tony Bennett left his heart. If you like to stay close to "home," you have a Starbucks, nail salon, Yoga studio, Rite Aid, UPS Store, Taqueria, excellent burgers, Thai restaurant, take-out Chinese, pizza and Lunardi's market 2 minutes away by car (and also walkable) at the Palos Verde Mall. Additional cafes (Rooted, Latte Da, another Starbucks inside Safeway), sushi, and neighborhood bistros with Happy Hour (e.g. Wence's) are no more than a 10 minute walk in the other direction. But if you just want to relax (or work) in the apartment, you can tuck in with a book or your laptop, a cup of tea, and drink in the splendid view! You will want to rent a car (or use a LYFT or similar service) for getting around easily. If you plan to go into San Francisco, public transit (BART) is also an option (and sometimes the better option, depending on the time of day). The Canal Trail is also steps away for walking and biking. PARKING: is free street parking. Unless you have specific permission from us to park in our driveway temporarily, please do not do so as it prevents us from pulling our cars in and out Keyless entry: you will have a personalized 6-digit code to unlock and lock your guest suite. Cooktop is induction. Instructions provided in House Manual. It heats HOT and FAST. Please take care not to burn the pots PARKING: is free street parking. Unless you have specific permission from us to park in our driveway temporarily, please do not do so as it prevents us from pulling our cars in and out. Please do not block the stone column mailbox (#20) with your car. Our postal carrier does not appreciate that. Plenty of street or cul-de-sac parking is available. If for some reason street parking is scarce, send us a message and we will help you figure out a solution (such as parking our driveway temporarily) Although we don't allow pets in the Airbnb space, we hope you like dogs. Sadly, the black Labrador featured in a couple of our photos passed away in September (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) , but we still have our exuberant chocolate Lab in the main house with us, and you may have occasion to make his acquaintance. He loves to meet people (and assumes the feeling is mutual. If this might trouble you, please move on to the next listing)! He also has been known to bark at 2 main occurrences: (1) squirrels and (2) hearing us return home after being away for some period of time. Although not excessive, you may hear some barking at indiscriminate times (0-3 times/day and normally not during the night), and there is not a lot we can do about it. IF THIS WILL DISTURB YOU AND/OR YOU INSIST ON ABSOLUTE QUIET AS YOU SLEEP LATE INTO THE MORNING, YOU MAY WANT TO MOVE ON TO THE NEXT LISTING. BUT WE HAVE INSTALLED $10,000 OF GREEN GLUE SOUND PROOFING/INSULATION IN THE WALLS AND CEILINGS OF THE GUEST UNIT, WHICH MEANS YOU MAY NOT HEAR ANYTHING AND THIS PARAGRAPH IS MOOT. But please do not leave us a negative review because our sweet, lovable and loving Labrador greeted us (or you) enthusiastically - and rest assured that you are safe from any squirrel attacks during your stay, due to our "squirrel security alert" system. So far, our guests have reported hearing nothing or maybe a bark once or twice over the course of a 5-14 night stay, and that the bark sounds muffled - as if it is coming from another house (quite frankly, you are more likely to hear a neighbor's dog barking than ours!). We are as transparent as possible in our listing description to manage expectations. Do remember that by booking with us, you are being invited into (the private portion of) a family home. COMPLAINTS/NEGATIVE REVIEWS ABOUT OUR BELOVED DOG OR OUR WELL-MANNERED (PART-TIME) TEENAGERS ARE OFF LIMITS AND NOT PLAYING NICE. If you cannot agree to that, you may want to click another listing. For stays longer than 5 days: once you have exhausted the initial tea bags, toilet paper, paper towels, creamer, Keurig pods, etc. that are provided for you upon your arrival, you are responsible for restocking those items for the remainder of your stay.
